insuruto
Hey Folks, First let me start off by saying I purchased the H100 for a push/pull configuration in my NZXT Phantom full tower case knowing that it would NOT allow enough clearance for my Corsair Vengance 2x4gb sticks of ddr3. That being said I simply removed the memory heatsinks and it fit. All this was done back in January of this year. These past two weeks I have upgraded my gaming rig with an Asus z87-pro mobo, Intel core i7 4770k cpu, and seasonic 860w Platinum psu. Somehow after doing hours of research what pc hardware I was going to purchase, I failed to take into consideration the h100 heatsink compatibility. I simply removed it from my old mobo and installed it on my new one. Today I read up on the h100 only to find that it is NOT compatible with the LGA 1150 socket I am currently using. However with HWMonitor running I get an average of 22-25C at idle load. I tried to OC my cpu through bios and I get BSOD almost everytime around 4.3-4.6 Would the h100 incompatibility cause an issue with overclocking if it's not showing abnormal temps at idle load? Should I just get the h100i and stop being cheap? LOL. I wonder if corsair would take my old h100 as I can't seem to find it new anywhere online, only refurbished. Corsair doesn't sell it anymore, wonder if it was recalled. Mine is loud at startup and quiets down a little but still semi loud at idle. Any input is greatly appreciated, Thanks! peanutz94
Today I read up on the h100 only to find that it is NOT compatible with the LGA 1150 socket Not quite sure where you read that information. The H100 is totally compatible with the 1150 boards. 1150 boards are not on the list of "supported" sockets because the H100 was made long before that board was in production. However They use the same mounting positions as the 1155-56 boards as you have already found out by mounting it. That is all that is needed to be compatible. What ever is going on with your OC has absolutely nothing to do with the H100. Your BSOD's are either bad BIOS settings or that is where your CPU tops out and wont overclock any further.Which at 4.3-4.6ghz is a strong possibility with the haswell CPU's.. I wonder if corsair would take my old h100 as I can't seem to find it new anywhere online, only refurbished. Corsair doesn't sell it anymore, wonder if it was recalled. The refurbished models only have a 90 day warranty on them.
insuruto
@Peanutz94, I was reading on corsairs support page under the H100 (not the i version) for compatibility and saw that 1150 was not listed. I assumed that there was a reason it wasn't listed for the H100 and was listed for the H100i. I did some extended research after posting this thread last night and saw that the 1155/56 mounting holes were identical to that of the 1150. 75mm. Mine isn't refurbished, I purchased it new, but I just wanted to make sure that the loud sound I was hearing at startup wasn't contributed to the bad batch that Corsair had made with the lot#11359403. Thankfully that's not the case. I always run mine at max (three lights) on the heatsink. I fixed the BSOD using Asus's AI Suite 3 which I'm still partial to, but seem to have better luck using than bios. My 4770k is lower than the 50 percentile topping my OC to 4.3gh on all 4 cores at 1.25v :( Well thank you for your input, although I found it out before reading your reply, it's still nice to get another persons views. Sorry , my dyslexia kicked in...I read that wrong. Noise at start up isn't uncommon. Air gets trapped or settles in the pump and once circulated should quiet down. Since it's NOT a refurbished unit then yes, as long as it's still under warranty , then it can be RMA'd if the noise gets any louder. My 4770k is lower than the 50 percentile topping my OC to 4.3gh on all 4 cores at 1.25v :( Thats kind of what i was figuring.
