tsearax
I've just read both "Memory Upgrade Resource Guide 2010.pdf" and "Upgrade App Note v1.0.pdf" but haven't noticed any specifics on the "tuning" required for 4-up or 6-up RAM configurations to aid in overclocking efforts. I did note that my ASUS MOBO automatically tuned the RAM's rated 1600 MHz down to 1333 MHz with a mild overclock - the two PDFs explain why. Is this the full extent of available "tuning"? If so how much drop in speed is required for how much overclocking of the CPU in a 4-up DDR3 configuration, generally speaking?
peanutz94
What your asking there is no real answer(well i shouldn't say no real answer) to because it will differ fro board to board and at what over clock ?. As far your memory being set to 1333mhz, is because all MB will set memory to it's default speed until other wise changed in the BIOS. You would either have to enable the XMP profile or set them manually. What MB are you asking for? I can help you with specifics then. Is this the full extent of available "tuning"? If so how much drop in speed is required for how much overclocking of the CPU in a 4-up DDR3 configuration, generally speaking? You don't always have to drop memory speed depending on how you have your overclock set up. Take mine for example. I'm running a 4.5ghz OC along with 6 sticks running at 1603mhz. Sure at some point once your OC gets so high you may have to sacrifice memory speed for CPU speed. But again it will all be dependent on your individual CPU and how well/poor it overclocks. tsearax
Thanks peanutz. I stumbled upon [ame=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnH0luwrcfE]THIS[/ame] yesterday afternoon. With some mods I (astonishingly) managed a 4.6 GHz OC with the RAM still running 1600 MHz. The 4.7 MHz in the video produced random intermittent program crashes (while running Prime95) so I pulled it back and all's well so far. I'll leave it running Prime for a few hours later today and see how it fares. It was astonishing to me as all previous attempts at OCs in the past (more complicated ones) failed miserably.
