Doctorwatkins
After 3 months of enjoying my H100i I decided to add another 2 fans. Upon removal I realized I could not fit the normal sized screws into the 4x corner holes. Probably due to fault of my own, I am unable to attach new fans on top or suspend it from the top of my case, as the screws simply will not fit. The only solution i've seen to this issue presented is an RMA, but I'm pretty sure there can be a DIY solution via buying bigger screws/rubber things i've heard about? I can live with not having these holes perfect, I just want a 4x fan solution. As currently I'm suspending it from the top of my case via 4x cable ties around the screw mounting corners. The protruding cable tie ends are interfering with my top 200mm fans so ideally i'd like to do away with them. Any recommendations on what to aquire to solve this myself? Surely slightly bigger holes isn't a justifiable reason to waste an otherwise good product. Thanks in advance Gallery 4x pics with thread size comparison and cable ties http://imgur.com/a/IYJen
Doctorwatkins
Maybe something like this? Any idea what size to get? Or won't they fit in the h100i holes, or carry the weight of the rad? http://waycoolmodz.com/images/products/others/rubber_fan_mounts_1.jpg

peanutz94
Hi doctorwatkins, You have basically two ways you can go about this. The first would be to RMA your cooler. They will replace it for stripped screw holes. The other otion is to just use the next largest screw size in the hole. I have had other RAD strip holes, i just used a 3mm tap to create new threads and bought some new screws. Now this method I only suggest if you don't mind voiding your warranty. Some people dont care, others do. /Shrugs The rubber mounts wont work because you have to have a way to pull them through the mounting holes. And thats impossible with the radiator fins in the way. :) If you would like it replaced, just use the link on the left to request an RMA.
Doctorwatkins
Thanks for the input Peanutz94. I work on website design from home, and I don't think I can really deal with the downtime of an RMA, considering I have no other temporary cooler to put in. I'm utterly useless with screws though, what size screws would I need? I can't seem to find any ones girthier than the standard size on websites. I would like to purchase the next screw size up, and see if it works, if not i'll attempt to tap it in. What equipment will I need? I'm utterly useless with this sort of stuff, but it seems rather simple. http://www.specialtech.co.uk/spshop/customer/Phobya-6-32-UNC-x-35mm-Cross-Head-Screw-4-Pack--Black-Nickel-pid-14509.html These are the screws before, any chance I could get a link to the next size up? Because I have no idea how to find it, tried googling 7-32 but didn't seem to yield any results.
peanutz94
You wouldn't have to be without a cooler. You can request an advanced replacement, so the only real downtime you would have would be the time it takes to change the cooler itself. Honestly, that would be the route I would go before voiding the rest of your warranty. However, If you are dead set on using larger screws, I used 3x30mm screws. The stock ones are 6/32 x 1.25in long. I think a small 3mm tap ran me like 3 bucks and the screws were only 13 cents a piece. So it's a pretty cheap fix. A thread tap and a small wrench to turn it with is all you should need. Maybe google on how to use a tap if you have never used one before. Going slow is the key.:)
Doctorwatkins
I totally didn't know that there was such thing as an advanced replacement. I'm only 3 months into my purchase so I'm likely to be eligible? I will wait and see how my RMA process progresses, I won't jump the gun if there's a possibility of having no downtime. Thanks so much for the help! I'll keep this bookmarked as a last resort =P
