northernlanes
I have a Asus P5K3 Deluxe motherboard and am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I currently have 4Gb (4x1Gb) CM3X1024-1333C9DHX [9-9-9-24 1.60V ver3.1] RAM and want to upgrade to 8Gb of RAM, I tried 8Gb (2x4Gb) CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 [DDR3 XMS3, PC3-10600 (1333), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.50V] only to find it would not boot to post, .. with further investgation I realised each of the 4 slots on the P5K3 would only accept 2Gb max so I returned these. Further internet research told me Corsair Dominator CMP8GX3M4A1333C9 (4x2Gb) is compatable but these appear to be old chips and are difficult to get hold of. Is the a current model of Corsair memory that is compatable that I can use to upgrade my m/b ? Many thanks in advance.
peanutz94
Unfortunatly, you may have a hard time finding memory that would work with that MB. That chipset has a memory limitation of modules that are constructed from chips no larger than 256mb. Most if not all of anything Corsair has in production at this time would be made with larger 512mb IC's and would be too dense for that system. You could try this kit here, but depending on the version umber, they may not work either. Unfortunately, you can't or most places wont let you specify a specific version number. http://www.corsair.com/us/memory-by-product-family/xms-classic/cmx8gx3m4a1333c9.htmlw
northernlanes
thanks for that, the RAM I mentioned is unavailable (at the moment), but this one is more readily available http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300998753772?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 , it appears to be of similar spec but is 1600 as opposed to 1333, my m/b runs memory at 1333 max, would this be a suitable alternative or is it not that simple ? peanutz94
Yup, They would just run at 1333mhz. Although you would still be facing the same chipset limitation as you did before. However I would go ahead and try them. Just as long as your reseller has a good return policy just in case they don't work. I wouldn't want you to waste money if it doesn't.
