V-Man
After reading numerous reviews I bought myself an AX760 PSU. I finally got round to installing it today & instantly noticed that the PSU makes has some coil whine @ load. Came to these here forums for advice only to find that I'm not alone. How can I arrange a RMA and is there some sort of quick swap (door step swap) RMA option available?
peanutz94
How can I arrange a RMA and is there some sort of quick swap (door step swap) RMA option available? If this is a new unit then it would be best to return it to your resellers. If that is not possible then just use the link on the left to request an RMA. You can also request an advanced replacement that way too. Or you can call CS once your RMA number is issued. and they can arrange it that way. Before sending it back have you tried any of the troubleshooting steps found in the NOISY PSU sticky above? http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=85166 Came to these here forums for advice only to find that I'm not alone. This is a support forum. Your going to see numerous complaints on every product here. V-Man
Thanks for your help peanutz94, Corsair are sorting out an RMA for me. I did have a read through the sticky, has some great advice, but to be honest users should not have to disable system features due to PSU coil whine. V-Man
Quick update. I ended up returning the PSU to the retailer, they eventually & reluctantly replaced it. Installed and everything was working well, until I started gaming. the buzzing noise from the PSU was back, I can even hear it while the system is idle. V-Man
My replacement PSU arrived yesterday. Super fast delivery for Holland to UK (within 24 hours) Installed the new PSU, booted into Windows, did a few re-boots and all seemed well. but today after lightly stressing the system, the dreaded PSU whine returned. I decided that I need to be sure its the PSU & not any other component. So I did a little testing, I removed all non essential hardware, so system spec is as below: Intel i7-4770K (passive cooling) Gigabyte GA-Z87MX-D3H 16GB Corsair RAM Couple of SSD drives (OS & Programs) No case fans Booted up with AX760 installed - Coil whine audible, even @ idle Booted up with cheap 500W PSU - Blissful silence This is now my 3rd PSU
V-Man
Does anyone have any real world comparisons of the fan noise between the AX760 & AX760i? Corsair want to replace my AX760 (this is now my 3rd one) with an AX760i. I know most people would consider this an upgrade, but my concern is the fan noise from the 760i. The Zero RPM fan mode on the standard AX760 is far superior to the 760i. To be honest @ this point I'll consider the 760i with what ever fan noise it has, coz this incessant coil whine is likely to make my ears bleed sooner or later. peanutz94
The Zero RPM fan mode on the standard AX760 is far superior to the 760i. You could always create your own custom profile for the fan and get it more on par with the non-i
V-Man
You could always create your own custom profile for the fan and get it more on par with the non-i 760 But would that not overheat the PSU?
peanutz94
No, , not necessarily. It would depend on how you have the fan profile set-up and your total mount of power usage. Your system uses very little power so i would be surprised if you ever saw the fan running under normal real world usage anyway. The whole point of the I series is to take advantage of CL and to be able to create your own profiles, monitor power usage and so on.
V-Man
Well an AX760i is on its way to me. I really hope this resolves the coil whine issue. I can live with the fan spinning up if the whine goes away. To be fair with Corsair they have handled the RMAs rather quickly, but I think they should at least make an attempt @ resolving the actual hardware issue instead of doing multiple swapouts

V-Man
My replacement AX760i arrived today. Installed and all seems well. The LED on the Corsair Link dongle flashes between green & red. What does it mean & should I be concerned?
TheSidewinder
Flashing of that LED with green/red is normal.
V-Man
One thing I have just noticed is that the Power Option Profiles are not working after installing the 760i. When set to Balanced the CPU clock remains on its Turbo clocks rather than dynamically clocking up and down
V-Man
I must be the most unluckiest person there is. The AX760i I received has an electrical whine while the system is powered down. This is now my 4th PSU. Im totally fed up.

combod
V-Man, you must have spent a fortune on shipping all those PSUs back to Corsair. I have read somewhere that the higher the efficiency of a PSU, the more noise it will emit, a trade off there is no way around. The manufacturers try to force the noise to stay within ranges less/not audible for human ear. Apparently they’re not always successful.
