trackready
Ok, so I am coming from a custom loop build into the new Prodigy-M. No room for custom loop so reluctantly I ordered an H80i over a Noctua NH-U12S. The reasoning? I plan on traveling with this rig from time to time and liked the idea of the mass being bolted to the case and not the mobo. Did some reading, heard several reliable sources say there is "no perceivable pump noise" from the new i series coolers. Having owned an asetek OEM AIO before this was a big concern, those pumps were loud. Well, here I am... Completely unhappy. The pump has no air in it, the fans are GT-15's being run off the motherboard. The pump has a gentle hum to it but it can be clearly heard in a silent room from 15 feet away. I can't help but wonder is this normal? The noise is so smooth I can't imagine there being anything wrong with my particular unit. The noise isn't super loud, but makes the PC clearly audible at all times. RMA or Return? Am I ever going to be happy with it?
wytnyt
anything that moves generates some degree of noise, these are rather quiet but you can still hear it work,,still much quieter than air.are you hearing the pump or fans? only you can decide what is too loud tho.. i have 3 on my table in front of me and all i hear is a small hum thats barely concern able ... trackready
Noise is similar to this [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDA5e-FmzDo&feature=c4-overview&list=UUSQ_TrPEqWefs1ybbOCZVeA[/ame] Which is found another forum member post. For my fans to overpower the pump they would be at around 1500 rpm. IMO that is not acceptable, especially since it is a slightly "sharp" noise that cuts into the ambient more than a low dull roar of a fan.
wytnyt
its hard to say honestly,i can have one of mine running and even with 7 fans going i have to really put my ear close to it to hear anything.corsair would replace it but you may/may not have the same scenario. you shouldnt hear it from 15 feet but id drop your fans ect and isolate it to being the pump,id also make sure something isnt loose causing this, just to avoid still having the noise.
