blah97
HI, I just bought a Corsair CX750 PSU. The pc runs fine but I can hear a very faint noise coming from the PSU. When I start a game up like WoW, the noise gets greater, (sounds like a sizzle but gets loud) and waves start appearing on my screen. I tried to play CS Global Offensive, but the PC shut down the second it went on to a level. I'm guessing it's the PSU just because of the loud noises. They happen exactly when something appears on the screen. Like when you jump into a game, the noise get louder then dissipates when you go back to desktop. My part number is CP-9020015. I tried the official support form but it wouldn't take this part number, so I couldn't proceed any further. Any help would be great, thank's loads. Things I've tried so far are. Checking all the connections. Taking the mobo out and doing a complete reinstall. Taking the PSU out of the case and running it. Changing some of the Bios specs. ( I'm not good at that though) Removing all components apart from the PSU and SDD to boot the system. I can still hear the noise but very faint. Can't put it under load because I took the graphics card out.
peanutz94
Actually this sounds morre like a GPU problem than it does a PSU. The waves on your screen would give it away. It could also be why your getting a touch of "coil whine"
blah97
Hi, thanks for your response. I've been focusing a lot on the GPU after I read your post. I don't have any way to test them individualy. So I'm kinda hoping I can find a way to exclude one or the other. Or even better a fix. I agree that it is a GPU issue, but I have a feeling that it's the PSU causing the GPU to fail. I'm not sure at the moment as I don't have any way to test them individualy. So I'm contacting both MSI and Corsair. Hopefully one of them can sort it. Though I know this is a Saturday so will have to wait till monday. I've gone through a bunch of different drivers now and no change. I'll see if I can figure out how to slow the card down a bit and see if that helps. peanutz94
Without testing the GPU's individually any response you get from MSI or Corsair would just be a total guess. Why cant you test them individually?
blah97
I don't have a PC that can run a gtx 770. So I've been testing some more and it seems to run fine when Vsync is enabled. If it's not enabled then my system will crash as soon as the 3d section appears. I have gotten some stuff to work with out Vsync but there are wavy lines and it feels very unstable. The PSU is still making noises.
peanutz94
You cant just remove one card and test them individually in the same machine? Not trying to give you a hard time, just trying to make sure you get the correct component fixed.
blah97
The PSU works fine when it's not under load. It won't be under load if I don't use the card. I got rid of the wavy lines but the crashing is still here. Think the wavy lines might have been caused by using the DVI/VGA cable instead of a proper DVI/DVI cable. I put in a HDMI cable and the wavy lines vanished. I'm gonna get a DVI cable today to test it. Crashing problem and noise from PSU is still here. Sometimes when entering a game or using a 3d test programme my PC completely shuts down. I ordered another PSU from another company to see if it is the PSU. Sure it will , all you have to do is load up Prime 95 and furmark at the same time. That would be plenty of load. Crashing problem and noise from PSU is still here. Sometimes when entering a game or using a 3d test programme my PC completely shuts down. You always have the option to have the PSU replaced. Corsair would be happy too. I'm just not convinced it's a power issue. Have you checked to see if your voltages are dropping any under load?
