Mothhive
Hey guys, was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the cmz8gx3m2a1600c9 pair is compatible with an XFX 790i Ultra SLi and a Q9450? Have a TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX pair at the moment and was hoping to bump up to 8GB of RAM fairly cheaply to hold me over until I do a whole new build toward the end of next year, but the prices for an extra pair are pretty high since they were discontinued a while ago, so I thought I'd see about replacing them entirely. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
peanutz94
Sorry , no , those would not be compatible. That MB has a memory limitation of modules constructed with no more than 256mb IC's. Anything Corsair is making today would be made with a larger 512MB IC's making them too dense for the BIOS to see.
Mothhive
Ah, thanks for the quick response! Do you think there are any kits that would work that are still sold, and how would I go about telling if the RAM is constructed with 256MB ICs or not? peanutz94
You can check the version number of the modules in question against the Inquery list found here http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68811 You might get lucky and find some older kits laying around. The problem is that most places will not let you specify a version number . Really all you can do is check any kit you find against the list. But as of now the vast majority of their kits would be made with the larger chips.
Mothhive
Managed to find a fairly cheap used TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX pair and decided to get that to add to my current pair instead. It should hopefully do until my new build next year. Thanks for all your help!
