JAFFE
Hello, I bought a new PC about 2 months ago including a AX860i PSU. About 1 month ago I started to experience random shutdowns. Sometimes I couldn't startup the computer again, it just came on 1 second and then shutdown again. Disconnecting Power would in some cases make it startup again and a warning says "Anti-surge protection was triggered ....." I started to read up on this as last week it started to happen every evening and last night it shutdown and didn't want to come on again (it starts for 1 sec, shuts down). I came across this youtube video that shows an AX860i with exactly the same issue that I have (although, mine is not that frequent): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2OyDy6RXS0 This guy has a different setup than me but it seems to be a PSU issue. As I do not have an extra PSU to test with its hard to pinpoint if the PSU is the issue. I use a Asus Maximus VI HERO motherboard and a Intel 4770K CPU. Any ideas? I'm thinking about disabling the anti-surge protection but something tells me I should not do that (seems like a good feature). Do you guys think its safe to disable it? peanutz94
We have seen several cases of the ASUS anti surge software reporting false positives. Really, why is it even there? All modern PSU 's already have that protection in place. At least for now i would disable it and see if your random restarts quit.
jlhawn
same problem on a recent build for a family member with the same ASUS software, I disabled it and the problem is gone. most software of this nature that comes with a motherboard is useless and causes nothing but problems for end users. JAFFE
I disabled the anti surge protection and the problem is still there unfortunately. I've tried removing most HW and using other Components (GPU, memory etc). I've also checked all cabling and running out of options. Sucks to send it in for replacement as I have no PSU I can use and also I'm a bit reluctant of redoing all my cabling work as I guess this needs to be sent in as well. peanutz94
You can always ask for an advanced replacement when you fill out the RMA form. This way you would only be down a couple of days or the time it takes to ship one to you..
songwillie
Gosh, I'm also seeing this problem with my AX860i. I've been living with this problem for months. Sometimes it would go problem free for a week, sometimes days. Now it gets more frequent. And finally, I'm at the state of not being able to keep my computer on for more than 30 minutes! That's frustrating! And I thought it would be problem free when I get a high end product :( What's Corsair's RMA process in Malaysia? I contact my reseller and there is no such thing as advanced replacement from them. Do I have to contact Corsair directly?
peanutz94
What's Corsair's RMA process in Malaysia? The same as everywhere else around the world. Use the link on the left to request an RMA. Once you get your RMA number they will send you instructions on where to send the faulty unit.
songwillie
Hmmm..... I took out my AX860i, swapped in a HX700, and it ran fine for a day. I almost wanted to give up and send my Ax860i for an RMA, but I decided to power it up again with my Ax860i. Surprisingly it is still working fine after 3 days continuous, with no random shutdown in between. I wonder why..... Looks like I'm holding onto my unit now. peanutz94
I wonder why..... Looks like I'm holding onto my unit now. It could have just been a bad connection in one of the connectors. A lot of people find that just the act of removing and re-seating the cables will often cure these types of issues. You may , just for the sake of making sure everything is okay , check your cables . Especially the 24pin and 8pin EPS for any burnt or discolored pins.
songwillie
It has happened again, after the 4th day, and I went ahead to get a HX650 to identify the failing part. Will look out for the cables, thanks for the tip! I'm using all HX cables now, since HX and AX cables are exchangeable, I'll keep the cables and swap the PSU if the HX performance is good for the next week! JAFFE
So, I decided to request an RMA for my PSU. Nothing is helping. I had it run stable for 3 Days after re-connecting all Cables but then the problem came back again. I'm gonna record its behavior and make a new Youtube video as the one I linked above got removed (which is unfortunate as it was very similar to my problem and the problem a lot of people seem to be having). peanutz94: Thanks for your support!
