rfgiusti
Hello, I work at a research lab where recently have been acquired five desktops with the following motherboard/CPU/memory specs: - Intel DX79SI - Intel LGA 2011 Core i7 3930K - 8 x Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10 Problem is: as soon as we started running memtest86+, each one of them started failing. Not a single one worked perfectly through all the runs of the memory test. We claimed there was something wrong with the product or with the assembly. But the vendor claimed the memory model we chose is incompatible with that motherboard. I still can't tell whether our requested configuration is incorrect or something fishy is going on. Is the Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10 incompatible with the Intel DX79SI motherboard? Thanks in advance.
peanutz94
Yes, it would be compatible. What memory test are you using? Are the BIOS's up to date on all boards? Have you tried to enable the XMP profile and use them, or are you going strictly by your memory test? Have you tried to set them manually? We claimed there was something wrong with the product or with the assembly. But the vendor claimed the memory model we chose is incompatible with that motherboard. I still can't tell whether our requested configuration is incorrect or something fishy is going on. If you requested it and it was supposedly incompatible, why would they build them in the first place?
rfgiusti
Thanks for your reply! Unfortunatelly, I no longer have access to the computers, so I can't answer throughly all your questions. But here's what I know. - We ran the latest memtest86+ that is shipped with the Debian GNU/Linux distribution; - The BIOS was probably the factory version. We didn't perform any upgrades and I guess neither did the vendor; - I haven't tried to run XMP profile test. I actually don't know what that is. The person who ran the memory tests pretty much just left the computers running for two or three days and saw several error messages indicating the memory couldn't be written/read without errors; - If by set them manually you mean to configure step/latency configurations in setup, I did not. The person who actually tested the computers (he's staff here, I'm a grad student) said he attempted to remove, clean, and reinstall the memory devices, but they still failed afterwards. If you requested it and it was supposedly incompatible, why would they build them in the first place? My thoughts exactly. But this isn't something I'm really worried about. I'll leave that to the legal department. Right now I'm going to ask the vendor exactly why he claims the memories are incompatible. I guess he'll give me a dumb reason that legals will use as follow up to get them to fix it. Having your confirmation that they really are not incompatible in any way is very helpful to me. Thanks a lot!

No worries, and if they give you any trouble, you can refer them to this thread if you wish. As far as the memory goes, if that person want to try and trouble shoot the issue, have them post here. memtest errors don't always mean failing memory and i have a feeling this is one of those cases. It's IMPOSSIBLE to have that many modules all show failures. Most likely just a BIOS setting. - We ran the latest memtest86+ that is shipped with the Debian GNU/Linux distribution; Download and run the version linked in the left sidebar. The version shipped with linux is not the same .
