Rick G
Just purchased the new memory and installed. Only problem I am having is that the Mb wont recognize the correct MHZ. I am able to use and run it at 1600 but would much rather run at the 2000MHZ. I am very new to OC memory and CPU. Any help would be great.
Yellowbeard
Have you enabled the XMP option for the memory in the BIOS?
Rick G
Yes i tried that and the computer black screens. The highest MHZ i can get the MB to accept is 1600 any thing more then that and its black screens. I didn't check before i bought it(like an idiot) if it was compatible with the board but I also wouldn't think EVGA would list it on there since the board is considered a legacy board and the memory is fairly new. On the EVGA site it says Over Clocking required. Would it be talking about the memory directly or also having to adjust the cpu?
peanutz94
The first gen I7's usually struggle with speeds above 1600mhz. I have never been able to get much past 1750 with mine. You also have an 950 and they were known for having particularly weak memory controllers. So that could be limiting you as well. And Your trying to achieve a huge overclock from 1333mhz to 2000mhz. Having said that , what are your exact settings for both memory and CPU? Are you trying to overclock your CPU too? I didn't check before i bought it(like an idiot) if it was compatible with the board but I also wouldn't think EVGA would list it on there since the board is considered a legacy board and the memory is fairly new. On the EVGA site it says Over Clocking required. Would it be talking about the memory directly or also having to adjust the cpu? The memory is compatible meaning that it can be used on that board. But as it says it requires overclocking of the memory and when you overclock there are no guarantees. The memory has been tested to 2000mhz and will run at those speeds given you have a CPU that can handle that overclock. If you want guaranteed speeds then you stick with stock or default settings. Rick G
I appreciate all the help and further reading and learning I'm realizing that with my current setup I wont be able to achieve the 2000mhz that the memory is capable of. So I've decided to drop down to a 1600mhz until i purchase the cpu cooler. As i said when i first started im very new to the game had a friend help me build and needed to upgrade cuz the comp was maxing the memory out. I'm not sure what information you are looking for but I can provide the Cpuid txt. Off of new information I'm finding I think I with a liquid cooler on the CPU I may be able to achieve that 20mhz but until then I will cap at 1600 like you are saying.CUPDz.txt

Off of new information I'm finding I think I with a liquid cooler on the CPU I may be able to achieve that 20mhz but until then I will cap at 1600 like you are saying. Okay, lets start from the beginning and see what we can achieve without a better cooling solution. Your temps will determine how far you can go to a caertain point. But yes, good CPU cooling is a must. Even a good air cooler will also do just as well as the AIO liquid solutions too. But just because you have the stock cooler doesn't guarantee that your going to top out at 1600mhz. That would be just one reason, but it's still possible to do better than 1600mhz even with the stock cooler. Your CPU will eventually get to a point where it will scream "UNCLE" . No matter voltage, timings, OC , ect. That is usually the largest limiting factor. In your BIOS what is you DIMM voltage, QPI voltage and CPU voltage at ,for 1600mhz? And more importantly, what are your CPU temps like with the memory at 1600mhz?
Rick G
My Dimm voltage is set at 1.65, QPI Volt 1.1, and cpu Volt is 1.13125 At rest my cpu is sitting at 50C witht he command rate at 2T, or 38C at 1T. Those temps are at rest. under a load my cpu is about 77C with the ram at 2T ,maybe a little bit hotter. Unable to watch it nonstop I also have the CPU VTT at +100mv
peanutz94
Okay, with the CPU sitting at 50c with just 1600mhz memory I wouldn't go any further until you get a better cooling solution. Idealy you want to be idling in the low to mid 30's. At any rate, when you do get your cooler you can try for 1866mhz but adjust the QPI voltage to 1.35v and see how that goes. Leave DIMM voltage at 1.65v and CR at 2. Use the timings that are printed on the memory label. Then re-run your tests and see what happens. If all is good then you go for 2000mhz. You can take your QPI to 1.45v if you need to, but only add what you need to make it stable. It may or may not work, all we can do is see what happens. Rick G
thank you for the help, you will probably hear from me come again after x-mas. Going to purchase my liquid cooling and have fun OC the processor so that I can run Tera better.
