Dominator Platinum 1866 Different Metal Bars

Hello all,

I've had a 2X4 kit of the dominator platinum 1866 kit for about 6 months. I went to Frys a few days ago and picked up another kit. I made sure they were the same model number and everything to make sure I got the same ones (CMD8GX3M2A1866C9 for both kits). Also they are both V 3.24 (Micron ICs). The problem I have is that the metal bar that has the Dominator logo on it is different on the new set. I haven't seen this kind before. The ones I have had already look like all the other ones I've seen online but the new one has a glittery and very shiny look. It's also a lot lighter in color and looks very bad mixed with the other sticks. They stick out quite a bit and I'm disappointed by this. I submitted a ticket a few days ago but still no response so I wanted to see if anyone else has had mismatched sticks as well. I hope they can send me some new bars (preferably to match the old ones). I love these kits as I'm running mine at 2400 (10-12-12-31 2T 1.65V) all four sticks easily. I can hit higher but having stability issues with all four modules.

Thanks for any help provided.

Yes, it's been reported before and unfortunately I don't believe there is much they can do about it. Corsair doesn't suggest mixing memoryt in the first place (yes , two kits of the same exact memory is considered mixing )If anything this is another reason to purchase all you mememory out of one single matched package instead of trying to upgrade at a later date

Someone from Corsair got back to me. He claims Corsair has never changed the way the bars were made. He said they don't carry the bars as parts so they'd have to RMA the whole set. I also went down to Microcenter and picked up another kit and these match the new Frys ones so I'm guessing they changed the look a while back and I just got an early model. I'm not mad just dissappointed bacause the early model I have looks nicer. I will probably just keep the new sets and find something to do with the old one. Thanks for the help.

I know this thread is over a year old. I just wanted to say your not the only one who's had this happen. Today I went out and bought another corsair dominator platinum 2 stick kit to fill in my 2 empty channels. The 2 new ones I got (with the exact same model number CMD16GX3M2A1866C9) are VERY bright compared to the old ones and the word "dominator" written on the metal bar is not legible when I have my case LED's turned on. I have RGB LED strips so I can change to any color I want with a remote. some settings look better then others but its always noticeable that the 2 new ones are brighter and the word is washed out by all the light even at low light settings. The old ones look much, much better and more defined, the metal stays dark while the "dominator" logo stands out nice and bright. Honestly i'm pretty dissapointed with the way they look but eh i'll live. Me and my first world issues... and yes even though they are the same model the revision called out on the side was drastically different (I think one was like V3.2 while the other was 8.22 or something

Same here, I was disappointed with the new revision of the RAM I just bought. I bought another set of CMD8GX3M2A1866C9 to fill my empty 2 DIMM slots. (Same exact model, CMD8GX3M2A1866C9). My older RAM set were bit shinier than the new one. It has a parallel lining markings from its aluminum heat spreader and the 'Dominator' markings from the top is lighter in color. In contrast to my new set of CMD8GX3M2A1866C9 I bought, its aluminum heat spreader are visibly anodized finish. And the 'Dominator' markings from the top were darker in color.

Thanks for the photo, sander. I've sent this thread over to our DRAM team for them to look at and evaluate. I'll provide you guys an update as soon that I get feedback from the team.

I just replied to your PM regarding this.
