zero83
Hello, I have an MSI Z77 GD65 Gaming MOBO. I have been reading about the H80i and loose backplate issue, and I have a couple of questions. 1: Can someone please explain to me what exactly the issue is(after all my reading, I am still not completely sure)? 2: Does anyone know if my mobo will be affected? 3. Is there a way to test to see if I need the washers, before I mout the cpu cooling block? I do not want to have to remove it, and reaply the termal paste, as I know corsair give high quality paste. If I do need to put washers on, I would prefer to do it before I even mount my CPU. 4: Can someone please explain exactly how/where I put the washers if I need them?(I know they would go on the back of the MOBO, but im not sure how to put them on if I need them) any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

zero83
Thanks, if you don't mind me asking, what are you getting for idle temps with this cooler? This is great news, One other question, How should I hook up the pump? CPU fanheader?, or sys fan header? Also, do I really need to connect the usb cable to the pump? I read somewhere that If I leave the usb cable unplugged, and only have both fans connected, that they will run at full speed? Is this correct? Thanks
madmecca1975
I have mine to CPU fan header and I use the USB I think if you don't it just works at default settings
zero83
Awsome, thanks, I might as well just use the usb then, if it wont hurt anything. I am hoping to see idle temps in the 20's. That's great that are boards are not affected by the loose backplate issue, I was worried about that.
peanutz94
Zero, water cooling isn't going to get your temps idle temps any lower than what a good air cooler would. It's impossible to get much lower than your ambient temps. However, your load temps are what should be most noticeable.
wytnyt
I am hoping to see idle temps in the 20's.. everyone hopes for the same but that would require some really deep pockets...
zero83
I'm talking about the temps that show in bios, unless I am mistaken. My last old mono with old bios always had CPU temp showing around 24 degrees. Was this not an accurate measurement?
madmecca1975
I have h100i i5 3570k ambient of 22 to 25c and CPU idles at 30 to 35 c what's your ambient temp
zero83
I have h100i i5 3570k ambient of 22 to 25c and CPU idles at 30 to 35 c what's your ambient temp OK, so when I used an older H50 with my i5 2570k, not overclocked, Bios said my cpu temp was 32-33 C is this normal for this chip? Like I said I had an old AMD x2 4400, and in my old Bios, it had always said my cpu temp was 24C or so. Maybe I am just not used to running a hotter CPU? madmecca1975
The idle temp will be roughly the same but the load temps should be lower than what the h50 got as for amd I think they run a lot cooler than Intel i think never used amd CPU
Ahtlon
There should be sticky about this, which mainboards having this problem, so people could if they went for mobo brand and corsair hydro cooler. Got my son a asus maximus VI hero with a i7 4770k and a H80i and this sits firm on the cpu, nothing loose.
