RandomMan
Hi There, I've been running a H100i [Firmware 1.04] since shortly after release. However, just recently it's started to develop a strange issue. Every few minutes, the fan speeds (stock fans) will jump from around 800RPM to 1500RPM+ for a minute or so then settle back down. The CPU and motherboard temperatures when this occurs will remain around 30 degrees C. Running an I7-3770K on a ASUS P8Z77-V Pro. The pump itself stays around 28 degree C and 2124 (which I assume is pressure)? Any ideas? Really starting to get on my nerves! :-)
Toasted
Are you using the 4-pin PWM fans? If yes, you need to update the FW to 1.05 greater for support.
RandomMan
I'm using the stock fans that came with the unit. How can I tell which 'type' they are? I've had this cooler for nearly a year without issue. So I doubt highly that I'm using the 'newer' fans. Happy to replace them though if it'll improve the noise levels. Anyone got a link handy? peanutz94
I'm using the stock fans that came with the unit. How can I tell which 'type' they are? Look at the connector on the fans. Does it have 3 pins? Or 4? However,The fans themselves are not the issue here. It would be the fan controller on the pump head itself. Unfortunately, the only way to fix it would be to have it RMA'd. If you have not made any changes to the unit in the last year , there is nothing else it could be. When a fan fails it just fails...it won't alter speeds by itself, let alone both fans. The pump itself stays around 28 degree C and 2124 (which I assume is pressure)? No, that would be pump RPM's Have you ever taken the unit out to clean it? RandomMan
Thanks - so the altering fan speeds I'm seeing could likely be a pump head failure? Would that cause this kind of intermittent behavior? Does the pump RPM seem 'normal'? I've never cleaned the unit - it doesn't look that dirty, but I'll give that a try. Thanks! peanutz94
Thanks - so the altering fan speeds I'm seeing could likely be a pump head failure? Would that cause this kind of intermittent behavior? Yes, because the fan controller is located there. Thats what alters the fan speeds. Does the pump RPM seem 'normal'? Yuppers! Pump spec is 2200rpms +/- 10% I've never cleaned the unit - it doesn't look that dirty, but I'll give that a try. Yes, please give that a try first. Even a light coating of dust can affect a radiators ability cool by a large amount. Lets see what that yields and we'll go from there.
RandomMan
Excellent. I'll give that a try and let you know. Thanks for your help, it's very much appreciated!
RandomMan
OK unit thoroughly cleaned, including fans and case the general. On initial boot, raised to around 1200 but has now dropped to around 900rpm idle. They are however again rising, but slowly going up again, around 100RPM every few minutes. Is that normal? H100i Pump remains around 2180.H100i Temp is around 28CCPU Temp Around 30CMotherboard Temp Around 30C. Have confirmed that I'm running 3PIN Fans and have raised an RMA request. The buzz has always been there, but just though it was part of the design! Hopefully the 4 pins will improve that, but worried the pump is faulty. Anything else I should be checking to confirm? Want to avoid RMA'ing the whole unit at all costs.

They are however again rising, but slowly going up again, around 100RPM every few minutes. Is that normal? Yeah, thats normal. The fans will run at or near 100% on a cold boot and should settle back down. If they are only changing 100RPM or so thats normal as well. In other words this is a small change that can't really be heard , your just watching the speed change?
RandomMan
Haha! Been watching too closely then! :-) Running around 1000rpm now and have been for about an hour. Will monitor, but 'seems' to be more stable. Also put 1.07 firmware on. I've submitted a ticket for the buzzing. Number: 6131621
RandomMan
Unfortunately I spoke too soon - this issue occurred again soon after my last post. Went out an brought a new H100i cooler, which seems to be running fine, so looks as if it is a pump failure/fault as suspected. Now RMA'ing the 'old' unit.
