hastoy
Hi, I just bought a TX650 PSU and it's making a fast ticking / clicking noise only when the fan is stopped. When it starts spinning the noise goes away. I can hear it from over 7ft away it's very annoying, particularly since I'm a sound engineer using this PC at work ! I hesitate to RMA since I've read so many posts saying that the new PSU would make noise as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :) Cheers, Guillaume
peanutz94
Hi hastoy, sorry to hear that ! Unfortunately there is nothing really that you can do except replace it. Since you just bought it it would be best to just return it to your retailer. If they can not are unwilling to help you then you'll need to submit an RMA. hastoy
Hi, so you're saying this little ticking noise is a fault ? I've read so many threads about noisy PSUs from different brands. How can I make sure I get a silent one ? RMAing isn't that easy, it'll make my PC unusable for quite some time !
peanutz94
Hi, so you're saying this little ticking noise is a fault ? Correct! If the fan is not spinning there shouldn't be any noise at all from it. RMAing isn't that easy, it'll make my PC unusable for quite some time ! As i said you would really want to return it to your resellers if possible since you just got it. But if you really want to go through with an RMA use the link on the left to get started. When you fill out a support ticket you can request an advanced replacement where they will take your credit card info and ship you a new one first before sending off the faulty one. But you'll be without a PC until the end of the week at the least depending on where you are in the world by the time you get the paperwork done and shipping time. However in your case i would suggest calling CS by phone once you receive your case number so you can ask them about a shipping label. Otherwise you would be responsible for the charges to ship it to them. They will cover shipping on items less than 30 days old. Please keep in mind that Corsair is closed on the weekends, so when you fill out your ticket it will tell you you'll hear back in about a business day. The automated part should go right through and you'll be issued a case number, but any further response might be delayed until Tuesday depending on the backlog they have from the weekend..Sometimes Technobeard Corsair employee) checks in and occasionally will do tickets on the weekends anyway. I've read so many threads about noisy PSUs from different brands. Thats just it...There isn't a product on the shelf anywhere that hasn't had problems. Google any PSU, Video Card,MB,coffee maker, ect.you name it... Your going to find complaints on them all. 99% of the time there are no issues and getting one is just an isolated case. There hasn't been anything as far as any certain batch or lot numbers that this affected though. So I'm sure it was just a fluke and your next one would be fine. Don't get me wrong. There are some isolated cases of users getting multiple bad PSU's (not necessarily your same issue)from multiple RMA's. It does happen every once in a while. I suspect some PSU don't like some components and vice-versa. Or for any number of other reasons.
hastoy
ok it's the answer I needed, the PSU should be totally silent when the fan is stopped. Well it's not the case with mine so I will return it to the shop hoping that it's not my motherboard or some BIOS settings causing this :-\ thanks butter94 ! mstettle
I too am experiencing the constant, fast ticking sound with the new TX650 when the fan is OFF. I own 3 TX650w (predecessor to the new model) and they have performed quietly and flawlessly for years. Too bad about this one--I will be returning it. FYI, my system is an Ivybridge i7-3770 running on a Asus mATX Deluxe board.
droid-mac
I got the same ticking noise. Even the replacement unit shows the same ticking.
peanutz94
I got the same ticking noise. Even the replacement unit shows the same ticking. Droid-mac, please log back in to your RMA ticket or call CS on Monday and let them know that your replacement is doing the same thing. I'm sure they will get you another unit out ASAP. Corsair will cover your shipping costs both ways too since this is the second RMA.
Freebo
Hello, I just got a XT650 and I am also getting the ticking hammering sound. Is there a faulty batch with them currently? OK i have turned the PSU so the fan is facing up, at idle I don't seem to hear it and the fan is not running. I load a game and i can start to hear it after a minute or so, fan is not running. I did a stress test on the system and it would start again. Seems to happen under load. Update: It doesnt happen all the time however I never see the fan running. I think it turns on for 2-4seconds on boot but thats it. Been playing games for about 2 hours still no fan.
