Frank28
Hi guys, I've been having an issue with my psu not shutting down. If I go start->shutdown windows will turn off, screen will turn off but the psu, case fans and lights stay on. Ive tried a few things, updated bios/flashed cmos, virus scans, check to make sure all my usb stuff can be shut down by windows. Any help would be appreciated thanks. peanutz94
Well, thats weird! I don't think I've heard that one before. I honestly have no idea what could cause this either. Does it shut off eventually or isn't time a factor?
Frank28
nope it can run forever the only way is to manually press and hold the power button for a few seconds or hit the master power switch on the back of the psu.
peanutz94
Yeah, thats really wierd. I'm not sure what to tell you other than to have it replaced and see if you still get the same symptoms. I have seen plenty of them that have refused to stay running, but never refused to shut off. Now thats a dedicated PSU! :P
bootsy1
Hi, i have had a Hx650,Hx750 and a Ax760 all that have done that, they have never done it a lot but maybe once a week. I think it may be related to my motherboard not my psu as it has done it with three different models of psu. With mine when it is in that like locked state and i switch it off at the mains when i boot up again it never complains about anything and boots into Windows fine. Pere Orriols
Hi, I have the same problem with AX860i and Asus Z87 motherboard deluxe, once in 10 Shut downs, the PC does not Shut down, leaving screen will turn off but the psu, case fans and lights stay on, if you know what the problem is, tell me something. thanks
AceGoober
For an issue like this it would lead me to believe the motherboard isn't sending a proper signal to the PSU to withdraw the PGS (Power Good Signal) which would shut down the PSU. A BIOS or operating system setting could also cause this problem. The first step would be to press and hold the power button on the front or top of your computer until the power turns off, unplug the power cord then proceed to re-seat the power supply connectors for the motherboard and each peripheral. Re-seating means fully separating the connector from the motherboard / peripherals, look for any signs of debris or corrosion or loose contacts, clean the contacts if necessary, then plugging the connector back in ensuring that the connector is properly seated. Synthohol
fwiw its actually suggested to reset your bios to defaults when upgrading to another PSU. let it reboot, go into bios make whatever OC settings or whatever you need for your system like HDD priority etc... and see if that does the trick. Please try this check if there is a newer BIOS and if so please update the BIOS on the MB and then install the xxxxx PSU again but before you power it on please remove the battery and make sure the power is off or UN-plugged to the system and use the CLRTC jumper or button to force the BIOS to reset and then try and turn the system on again, once you install the battery and put the reset jumper back to the run position and see if it will post and let you into the BIOS and load setup defaults. let us know :):
Pere Orriols
Hi I've disabled Bluetooth, Wifi, Intel LAN and Realtek Lan options in BIOS and my PC, sometimes doesn't Shut down and sometimes it restarts. I update the BIOS and I use the button to force the BIOS to reset and load setup defaults. The PSU is a new Corsair AX860i and Motherboard is new Asus Z87 deluxe, and sometimes also the motherboard does not recognize the DVD drive. When I'm working, the PC is working properly. but when I try to Shut down it sometimes does not Shut down. perhaps one in ten times fails Thanks
peanutz94
It's possible it's the PSU , but the more symptoms you present the more I think it's your MB. If you want to replace the PSU first though all you need to do is use the link on the left to get started.
Frank28
UPDATE: I gave up formatted and re-installed windows and all is ok so far. So that means it's not hardware but a software issue. Still unknown to me as to what caused it.
