WyldWolf
I'm putting together my build and already have the 500R and h100i radiator. I'd like to spend the money on the MSI XPOWER which is a XL ATX. I've seen posts that state the 500R only "supports" ATX and micro-ATX however I'd really like to stick with these parts and not skimp or have to abandon the Corsair parts. Surely someone has already tried this - does anyone have any pointers on what was required / how difficult it is and what's required (assuming it's possible) to mod the 500R running a h100i and get a XL ATX like the XPOWER to fit? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
WyldWolf
Bump....I'm a bit worried no replies........is it just impossible to put a ATX-XL inside of the carbide 500R with a h100i?
GrahamB
Can't answer directly but here is a pic if my carbide 500R with an ASUS Z87-Pro ATX MB, and an H100i fitted. Hope it helps.
G50EED
Bump....I'm a bit worried no replies........is it just impossible to put a ATX-XL inside of the carbide 500R with a h100i? I'm sorry no one responded. It's not going to work without modding the case. In the post immediately before you can see the lip that parallels the motherboard. That ATX-XL board is going to rub up right against it meaning the SATA ports are not going to be accessible without cutting into that lip (similar to the opening that exists on top of the PSU). If you're up to it, great. There are some other posts here on this topic but I couldn't locate them off-hand. If you have the time you might be able to find them. I'm pretty sure there's one with a photo from someone that did mod their case successfully.
GrahamB
Or you could use extra standoffs. right size metal tube cut to length and longer screws to secure the MB to lift it above the lip, I think that would be OK leaving enough clearance for the cards to case. If you tell me how tall the cards you are planning to install are from the MB I can measure for you. Please remember this was my first build of a modern system. If you want an IBM PC, XT, AT or PS2 I'm your man!!
WyldWolf
I think if you raise with standoffs, the cards will sit too high and not fit properly. I appreciate everyone's responses I should have looked at the xpower better to see it was not standard atx or I would have bought another case. I hate to choose the motherboard based on the case but it doesn't look like they will work together so I'll have to figure something out. GrahamB, what video card is that in your system? I'm hoping even if I go with a standard ATX board that a GTX 780 won't be too long for this case.
peanutz94
Also if you raise the stand offs the rear I/O panel won't line up either. I believe G50EED is probably going to be the closest here.

One of the features of this case is that the drive bay cages can very easily be removed, so if you have a super long card it can still fit, of course depends on how many drive bays you need, in my case they are all full. There is plenty of space at the bottom (IN MY LAYOUT, please note the very careful caveat) It may be possible to relocate the drive cage to the bottom, but I think it would make the PSU cabling a bit problematic. Haven't measured or tried it. But you know, I love this case, perfect for my needs.
