litm
Hi there, it is not possible to schedule Trim command under Windows XP SP3. "The SSD TrIM service could not be started" message appears when i'm trying to schedule the command. Steps to reproduce: - Windows XP SP3; SSD Toolbox v1.0.0.0 (current version at the moment). - install SSD Toolbox -> launch CSSDT.exe -> click Optimize -> check "Scheduled TRIM" - answer Yes when requested to start the service ('The service is not running. Would you like to start it now') - that's it..."The SSD TrIM service could not be started" message appears. The reason. (From my understanding) the issue is caused by improper handling of SDSIM_CSSDT mutex. Trim could be scheduled in case if the mutex is destroyed manually (by closing its handle, for example, from Process Explorer). Could you check the issue described and fix it ? Please let me know if additional details would be helpful.
litm
okay, sorry for being not so clear. Here are the additional details. 1.) I've purchased Corsair Neutron CSSD-N64GB3-BK drive because it's not so slow (for its price) and the software provides an ability to use/emulate Trim command on Windows XP (http://www.corsair.com/us/blog/the-corsair-ssd-toolbox/ ; http://wp.xin.at/archives/920) Yes, i know that XP is obsolete and reaches EOS in 7 months. There are some reasons to not use Win 7/8 on this PC. It should survive for some time :) But now it looks like a waste of money : ( 2.) Toolbox requires a service to be able to do its job (to run the scheduled Trim command). But it is not possible to start the service when SSD Toolbox gui application is running. The service starts and exits immediately. It's not possible to start the service neither from gui application (CSSDT.exe) by clicking "Schedule Trim" nor by SCM (services.msc or via net start). Again, it starts and exits immediately. http://thumbnails105.imagebam.com/27537/8c2e16275363594.jpg http://thumbnails107.imagebam.com/27537/ae36a8275363596.jpg 3.) It is also not possible to start the gui application when the service is running. It starts and exits immediately. Quite strange. It looks like an issue with synchronizaton. That's why i was thinking about mutexes. 3.) Finally...Trim could be scheduled in case if SDSIM_CSSDT mutex is destroyed manually (by closing its handle, for example, from Process Explorer). http://thumbnails104.imagebam.com/27537/6b3568275364221.jpg http://thumbnails106.imagebam.com/27537/b37523275364491.jpg ---------- Dear moderators, it seems to be my fault with creating this thread in "Firmware Update" subforum. Please move the topic to the proper location (one level up, to "Solid State Drives (SSD)" subforum) ---------- Still hoping to get some help regarding the issue. Sincerely yours, litm : )
litm
Hmm... 1.) Did someone (who still use Windows XP) try to schedule TRIM ? 2.) I might be wrong in assuming that this forum is used for both receiving a help from more expirienced users and contacting tech. support of the vendor. I'm a newbie there. Could somebody give me a tip about a proper way to get support with this issue ? 3.) Hello Yellowbeard, it was you who posted the information about the release of Corsair SSD Toolbox (http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=118313). Could you give me a tip - if the developer of Toolbox is alive and available for the public : ) ? - how and to whom should i address the questions ?
