Ken429
I need a refresher course on what to expect from the H100 fan controller. I have been using Noctua NF-F12 fans connected to the MB to control fan speeds. For whatever reason, I replaced the Noctua fans with the original H100 fans connected to the H100 fan controller. Now when I turn the computer on the fans roar into action and after 30 seconds or so they quiet down. I believe this is normal behavior for the H100 controller. Everything seems ok - when I change the fan controller from low-balanced-high the fans change speed slightly. However, when I run IBT for ten passes the 3770K core temps increase dramatically (core 2 being the highest at 85C) but the H100 fans never change speed! I have the fan controller set to high. Also, I do not notice any increase in fan speed when running Prime95 for several hours! What is the H100 controller using to sense the CPU temperature or is it broke? madmecca1975
Delete profiles and restore defaults and see if that works
Ken429
I assume you mean hold profile button down for 5 seconds, let machine run for 1 minute and then power down and hold the profile down for 5 seconds when restarting? Been there, done that and nothing changes. That's probably why I just gave up on this #$% fan controller many months ago?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 9, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 9, 2013 No he means in the C-Link software delete any saved profiles and set back to default.
Ken429
I don't have any C-Link software. All I have the plain old H100 hardware.
wytnyt
i assume it worked when using the Noctua NF-F12 fans. you may have the old style 3pin h100 fans and at one point there were some problems with them.try reconnecting the Noctua NF-F12 fans and see if it works again, this will tell if its the fans or controller. Ken429
I need a refresher course on what to expect from the H100 fan controller. I have been using Noctua NF-F12 fans connected to the MB to control fan speeds. I never tried the Noctua fans connected to the H100 controller. However, the Corsair 3-wire fans work like they should when connected to the ASRock Z77 OC Formula MB CPU Fan 2 (3-wire connector). Under load they speed up to their unbearable noise level and move a lot of air. Just an aside, the speed of the fans don't seem to make a lot of difference when running IBT on a 3770K. The thing gets up to ~80C for a few seconds and then cools back down to ~30C very quickly. It would be interesting to see if the coolant in the H100 changed very much. I tried hooking a 4-wire PWM fan to the H100 controller and it acted exactly like the Corsair fans. When I power up the system it roared for a ~30 seconds then slowed down to the H100 idle setting. But under load it never changed speed just like the Corsair fans. Back to one of my original questions: What is the H100 controller using to sense the CPU temperature and adjust the fan speed? If it is the coolant temperature, it may never need to speed up the fans. I have run the IBT 10 pass test with the H100 set on Low, Balance and High and never saw any significant change in the max CPU core temperatures even though the fans were running at different speeds.
