Coolmeadow
Hi guys and gals! I haven't been here since my last build about 3 years ago. LOML's first generation Intel dual core is biting the dust. I've been really happy with my Intel DC55HC mother board and I3 processor with 8G of Corsair XMS memory that I decided to up the ante and go with a new Intel DH87MC motherboard, I5 4670K processor, and 16G (4X4) of Corsair Vengeance memory, CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9. I thought I had looked through all the information and was in good shape, until the parts arrived today. The memory says on the box that it is quad channel. I panicked. I looked on the NewEgg page for the memory, and guess I missed where it say quad channel. Is this going to work? It says it is for the latest Intel processors, so thought it would be dual channel. Am I right that I need to see about returning this for the right product? I had looked at the motherboard/memory here, but it doesn't show this motherboard. I haven't opened it yet, so at least that is in my favor. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Jim.
peanutz94
Your memory is fine . There are numerous part numbers marketed as dual /quad channel kits. There is no difference between a 4 stick dual channel kit or a 4 stick quad kit. Dual or quad channel is a function of the MB and not the memory anyway. The only thing i can say or recommended is that with the newer systems a 2x8gig kit would have been a better choice. 2 sticks is less strain on the MB than running 4 sticks. But that kit you have is fully compatible anyway.
Coolmeadow
Thanks for the info! I've decided to go ahead and send it back and get the 2 channel kit of 2 X 8. Your information about it being easier on the MB helped that decision. It's only a $19.50 hit. And I'll know I have the right/best memory for the system. Odd thing is, I originally had the 2 X 8 model in the cart for about 2 weeks waiting for the wife to give her ok. Oh well, live and learn. Jim.
