djc5166
Hello, I recently tried to clean-install Windows 8.1 x64 RTM (This system was previously successfully running Windows 8 x64). Everything seemed to install fine at first, but when I go to install certain drivers, I get re-producible and consistent system hangs. At first I thought this was simply Windows 8.1 not supporting the drivers, so I made up a disk for Windows 8 and proceeded to re-install it... I ran into the same issues, system hangs when installing various drivers. Prior to my first attempt at installing Windows 8.1 RTM, I had updated the BIOS on my Sabertooth Z77 from v1908 to v2003. I had also updated the firmware on my Force GTs from v5.03 to v5.05a (I flashed in AHCI mode with windows installed on only one of them - I've heard you cannot flash the drives with your SATA controller in RAID mode) I've tried reverting my BIOS back to v1908, and still run into the same issue. The only thing I haven't tried yet is reverting my Force GT drives back to v5.03 firmware (If this is even possible?). Is it possible my pair of Force GTs could be the issue? And if it is, does anyone have any idea what is going on/how to fix it? I don't really see anything else that could be the culprit here. The drivers that are hanging on install are: Sound Blaster Z v1.00.22 Drivers My ASMedia driver installs for my motherboard Intel Network Drivers Not hanging: Nvidia Drivers Intel chipset install utility I haven't gotten past these to see if anything else is also hanging, but the system seems stable otherwise. I recall one time getting a blue screen saying something along the lines of MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION, after the system hung from installing the drivers listed above. Any help is greatly appreciated! Yellowbeard
Have you tried secure erasing the SSDs? If you have not, secure erase them and try the clean install again.
djc5166
I have not, is that with Parted Magic? I thought something like that could be the issue, but then that didn't make sense with it always hanging on the same spots, even on separate installs. I'll try that tonight. Yellowbeard
You can do it with a Windows based machine with our SSD Toolbox. If you don't have access to a machine running Windows, then yes you can do it via a bootable Parted Magic disk.
djc5166
SE'd both Force GTs with the SSD Toolbox under windows. Both came back with no errors. But when I put them back into Raid0 and install windows, I still have the same issues. Anything else I can try? I can pretty much narrow it down to my SSDs at this point. Everything works as expected when I install windows on my other HDs.
Yellowbeard
Hello, I recently tried to clean-install Windows 8.1 x64 RTM (This system was previously successfully running Windows 8 x64). This seems to be the root of your issue right here. I would guess it to be driver related.
