UnBright
Hi all, I am a tecnically handicapped person with a GA-870A-UD3, AMD Phenom II X6 1055T and 4 x cmx4gx3m2a1600c9, ATI Radeon HD 5750, and have been experiencing bluescreens ever since I bought my PC ca. 3 years ago. The periods of stabilty between two crashes are of varying length, but over the past two weeks I have had 5 crashes, which is too much. In the past, I have tried reinstalling W7 for quite a number of times, have replaced the system SSD with a HD and then replaced the remaining data HD, too, with another HD, have updated drivers, tried minor config changes (I am too afraid of trying major ones without assistance), but nothing has solved the issue (or issues), at least never for long. The relevant info from my most recent crash dump files seems to be: This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x75B80) Bugcheck code: 0x50 (0xFFFFF87FFD664590, 0x8, 0xFFFFF87FFD664590, 0x5) Error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA This was probably caused by the following module: atikmdag.sys (atikmdag+0xB5D40) Bugcheck code: 0x50 (0xFFFFF87FFD664590, 0x8, 0xFFFFF87FFD664590, 0x5) Error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x75B80) Bugcheck code: 0x50 (0xFFFFF87FF92F0D79, 0x8, 0xFFFFF87FF92F0D79, 0x5) Error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x75C00) Bugcheck code: 0x50 (0xFFFFF87FF92A9D79, 0x8, 0xFFFFF87FF92A9D79, 0x5) Error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA This was probably caused by the following module: atikmdag.sys (atikmdag+0xAD4A3) Bugcheck code: 0x3B (0xC0000005, 0xFFFFF880048F94A3, 0xFFFFF88008579740, 0x0) Error: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION Having read other threads and searched other forums, I believe that one thing that I could do is check or change the BIOS setup for my RAM, so maybe there is somebody here who could assist me with this task. According to SIW (which is what I am using for viewing my hardware configuration), the current setup is (I have to translate the headings from German): RAM type: DDR3 [PC 3-10700H] Producer: Corsair Capacity: 2048 Mb Speed: 667 Mhz (667 x 2 = 1033) Support of XMP SPD: yes (version 18) Supported frequencies: 444 MHz, 592 MHz, 666 MHZ, 800 MHz Does this mean that my current speed of 667 MHz is not supported? If this is the case, should I change it to something else, like 592? Or should I try something else? Any help will be greatly appreciated!
peanutz94
Does this mean that my current speed of 667 MHz is not supported? If this is the case, should I change it to something else, like 592? Or should I try something else? Nope, your good. Actually if you look at the SPeed Line where it says 667x2=1033. That means your system is running at 1033mhz. But even that speed is suported. Now on to the crashes. What i would start off doing is testing the memory with memtest86+ (there is link on the left) to see if you don't have a bad stick some where. First make sure you have the latest BIOS for your MB Insert just one stick at a time in the first slot. then boot to memtest. Let it run for three passes or until you get an error. Rinse and repeat for the remaining sticks. Test them all one at a time so you can single out any problem children! :) We can go from there depending on the results of the memtest. UnBright
Many thanks for your help! It was the difference between 666 and 667 that made me think that 2 x 667 might not be supported, but if you say it's ok, it's fine with me. I had run a few tests with a different memtest software (which can be run in the background while I am using my PC) without finding any errors, but I have now downloaded memtest86+. I will let it run overnight and then post the result. Yet before I start, can you explain (in easy words) what I have to do for making sure that I have the latest BIOS for my motherboard? According to SIW, my BIOS was created by Award Software International, the version number is F2, date 06/07/2010, size 1024 Kb, start segment E000h, DMI version 2,4, but the field for indicating the firmware version is void. peanutz94
Just check gigabytes site. They will have any BIOS updates there. If you need help flashing the BIOS , the directions will be in your MB manual and even that can be downloaded from Gigabytes website. You could even call their support and they would be able to walk you through it.
