Ricbec
Hi guys long time no post from me...im doing another build for myelf and i am finding this much harder to figure out han it did last time okay, the guts of it is I have just purchsed a Asus P9X79 Pro Motherboard and i am looking for some compatible corsair ram i am finding the asus site very difficult read the QDL so i thought i would ask you guys direct I am looking to install 2 x 8gb sticks of ddr3 ram and have been looking at the vengance range, but apparantly they are not compatible, could someone please provide some insight into what corsair ram i can use thanks EDIT: just thought id add that the processor i have chosen is the Intel BX80619I73820 Core i7 - 3820 3.6Ghz Quad Core Processor EDIT EDIT! Recommendations for both dual and quad channel kits would be greatly appreciated!
thenosbod
If I had bought this motherboard I would be looking at a kit of 4 sticks to make use of its Quad Channel Memory Architecture. quote off off the asus site 8 x DIMM, Max. 64GB, DDR3 2400(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory and quote from overclockers uk Memory: 8 x DIMM, Max. 64GB, DDR3 2400(O.C.)/2133(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz, ECC, Non-ECC, un-buffered Quad channel Memory
Ricbec
okay, ive looked at the corsiar configurator thingy, i think i have found the right ram for a quad channel configuration one thing i wanna check on, the part number for the ones im looking at is CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10R This part number shows up on the corsair configurator after ive entered the model of my motherboard, except it doesnt have an R on the end of it like the ones im looking at - does this make any difference to the compatibilty? its all so confusing these days
peanutz94
This part number shows up on the corsair configurator after ive entered the model of my motherboard, except it doesnt have an R on the end of it like the ones im looking at - does this make any difference to the compatibilty? No it doesn't. The r means they are red in color. If you want the blue ones just use the same part number with a B on the end of it. And no letter on the end for the black ones. Ricbec
Can anyone confirm that this ram is compatible with my motherboard?
peanutz94
Yes it would be completely compatible!
Ricbec
Well thats good news I have decided to go down the quad channel route I am now wondering if the vengance PRO series ram will run on this board I have heard a couple of old rumours that the X79 can be a little picky with vengance ram, is there any truth to this at all?
peanutz94
Yes, it will run equally as well as long as you get a 4 stick kit. There would be no performance gain between the two sets at the same speed though. Just different looks.
lodurr
I bought the P9X79 asus board and the Corsair Vengeance CMY16GX3M2A2400C11R i want to know if this are compatible with this board. Thanks
peanutz94
Yes, the modules are compatible, but just keep in mind that that 2400mhz is a HUGE overclock for those CPU's and will be highly dependent of your individual CPU's memory controller. lodurr
Thanks thats a good news but im newbie and i don't understand too much the overclocking, i want to put 32 gb, but i put the corsair and won't initialize. Can you help me with that or its too hard the configure and is a better option buy another Ram thanks
lodurr
i have a nvidia quadro fx5800, i7 proccesor 4930k, a coolermaster v8gts and a coolermaster cosmos II case. if can you need the information
peanutz94
Thanks thats a good news but im newbie and i don't understand too much the overclocking, i want to put 32 gb, but i put the corsair and won't initialize. Your CPU only officially suppports 1600mhz memory. So any speeds above that will require overclocking the memory controller in your CPU. Your MB may state that you can use modules that fast , and you can, but you have to have a CPU that will be able to overclock that high. Most of them struggle with speeds much above 2133mhz. So there is a good possibility you wont be able to reach those speeds. Great CPU cooling is a must for speeds that high. I would suggest no less than an All In One cooling solution such as the Hseries coolers at the very least. Air cooling may not be able to dissipate that much heat.. i want to put 32 gb, but i put the corsair You can use any of the Corsair 32 gig kits in that system from the Dominator Platinum, Vengeance Pro, Vengeance, and XMS3 modules. However if your not really wanting to overclock I would suggest a 32gig 1600mhz kit.
Corsair Employees Corsair Dustin Posted November 1, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 1, 2013 Did you flash the BIOS to support Ivy-E? Also, my workstation here has that exact board and CPU, and it just will not do 64GB at DDR3-2400. I have an experimental kit designed specifically for Ivy-E, but ASUS's BIOS support is...lackluster. lodurr
I had to flashing the BIOS and all working perfectly (The processor wasnt recognized without this but with this recognize the corsair great ) . I can configure The Rams at 2400 but i cant test it because i dont have the SO installed yet. Thanks a lot. tomorrow will configure the windows and i tell you what happened. I think that im going configure it 1600 Mhz (Peanutz94 advice) to no effort too much the machine what do you think? The purpose is a work machine turning on 8 hours not a gammer pc jejejeje Thanks a Lot
Corsair Employees Corsair Dustin Posted November 2, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 2, 2013 Honestly even DDR3-1333 would probably be fine. Our high speed memory is fantastic for Sandy/Ivy/Haswell, but on Sandy-E and Ivy-E the boost to memory bandwidth isn't as essential since they have quad-channel instead of dual-channel memory buses. lodurr
Well all run perfectly, the only thing that i had to do to the board recognize the 32 GB is put the frecuency 2333Mhz and turn off the EPU and TPU switch. The cpu frecuency change automaticly
Ricbec
Nice to see my thread got hijacked.....:sigh!: Okay, the system has been up and running for a while now, it is solid as a rock, very stable My only issue is I seem to be not doing something right in order to get the RAM to run at its 1866mhz speed I have XMP enabled in the BIOS, and the TPU, and EPU can beeither on or off with no change I do remember reading somewhere before I purchased this RAM and it mentioen the motherboard will revert to 1333mhz and something needed to be changednin the BIOS for 1886mhz performance Any suggestions guys? Cheers
peanutz94
If you have enabled XMP then they should be running at 1866mhz. Make sure it is enabled and you chose the profile for 1866mhz. (there maybe more than one profile) Save and exit your BIOS. Post a screenshot of CPU'z memory and SPD tab please. We'll see exactly what they are running at .
