Problem with USB 3.0 Front Panel on a 550D

Hi all,

I've just assembled a new PC with a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H in a Corsair 550D.

I've installed Windows 7 Home Premium X64 and last Intel USB 3.0 Drivers.

When I plug my external 2.5" HDD 1 To Western Digital USB 3.0 on a USB 3.0 of the mother board rear panel, I have a clean transfer rate of around 70-80 Mo/s.

But when I plug the same HDD on the 2 USB 3.0 of the front panel of the 550D, I have result like that : transfer around 70-80 Mo/s and a drop to 0 Mo/s for 20-30s then 70-80 Mo/s for a few second, and again a drop to 0 Mo/s ... it's totally unusable ! I've made a transfer of some large files, it takes a very long time, and all the files were corrupted !

I've tried those ports with a USB 2.0 Key and a USB 2.0 external 2.5" HDD and it work normally (around 35-40 Mo/s) ...

Please help me !!!

Frédéric

Hello Toasted,

Yes, I've already updated the BIOS to the latest.

I've tested several drivers for Intel USB 3.0 and I'm now at the latest.

All the other USB 3.0 port are working well, only the front panel don't work at USB 3.0 but seems to work well at USB 2.0 ...

I've also verify several times the header.

I'll request a RMA as now I don't know what to do.

Thanks for your help.

Similar to above, same board, same operating system, my Corsair Flash Voyager drive will work in the 3.0 ports in back, but errors at the front. I currently have a Toshiba external HD 3.0 plugged in the front that works fine, and all 2.0 USB's work fine. Pretty much isolated to this corsair flash drive.

Any further help would be appreciated.

Hi RAM GUY,

I've received the new front panel, many thanks for that.

But I have another problem now : Replace the front panel is anything but easy !

Where can I find the method to do that ?

I just hope that I won't have to disassemble all my configuration for that ...

Best regards,

Frederic

Hi RAM GUY,

Yesterday, I've tested the front panel by plug-in only the USB 3.0 header on my motherboard.

The good new is that one of the two USB 3.0 of the front panel works normally. That means that the motherboard have no problem.

The bad new is that the other USB 3.0 of the front panel is not working correctly in USB 3.0, as with the old front panel. It works correctly in USB 2.0 but not in USB 3.0.

It seems that CORSAIR have serious problems with quality in their production !

What do I must do now ?

Best regards,

Please post your ticket number here. I'll make sure it gets taken care of.

Thanks.

Ticket# 6140470

Hi, I've recently build a new system into a Corsair Obsidian 550D computer case. After finishing my build and installing the operating system and all the necessary drivers, I have discovered that the USB 3.0 ports on the front panel of the 550D are not working correctly. I'm able to connect USB 2.0 devices which then are working, but if I try to connect a USB 3.0 external hard drive to these ports it's not even detected properly. To troubleshoot the issue I've connected another USB 3.0 front panel from a different case to the internal USB 3.0 (20-1 pin USB3_12) connector on the motherboard to make sure it's not a problem with the motherboard, and sure enough these worked fine.

As this is a brand new system I would really like to get this resolved. Therefore I have submitted a Ticket with the # 6140470

Regards

Daniel

Hello RAM GUY,

I've received the second Front Panel this week-end, thank you for that.

But my problem is not solved :(:. There is still one of the two USB 3.0 which is not working properly (good for USB 2.0, but not for USB 3.0)

To summarize :

Original Front Panel : Both USB 3.0 are not working in USB 3.0

First A.S.S. Front Panel : Left USB 3.0 works, but Right USB 3.0 don't

Second A.S.S. Front Panel : Right USB 3.0 works, but Left USB 3.0 don't

As some connector works properly and it is not always the same connector that don't work, it definitely can't be a problem with the Mother Board or the drivers ...

I really like the case but I began to regret not having chosen another one :(:

Frédéric
