Hello guys,

here is the story: from one day to another, my computer began to crash repeatedly, most of my 3dsmax files became corrupted.

My first thought was for my two ram sticks and I was right.

I changed it for 2 other sticks from another brand and it worked fine

I tested each stick one by one and finally, i found that one of them was creating a lot of errors with memtest, the other one worked just fine.

The sticks are 2 * CMX512 - 3200LLPT XMS3205v1.2 0409120

Proc is P4C 3 ghz, MB is Asus P4P800 Deluxe (bios 1016), every settings is default (auto and standart)

I also tested the defectuous stick at 2.85V and it created less errors but there were still errors, so what shoud I do now please ? :)

Regards

Try these settings:

DRAM Clock: 200 MHz

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T

SDRAM Bank Interleave: 4 Bank

All other settings are motherboard defaults.

Also, are they a TwinX pack or just 2 individual sticks?

when, in the bios, dram settings were configured by SPD, I had errors but I could boot my comp. If I disable it and configure it by myself at 2,3,2,6,4, my comp doesn't boot anymore and gives me a bios cheskum error.

It's a 1 GByte TwinX Matched memory Pair.

Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings;

TwinX1024 or TwinX512-3200LL

Advanced/Jumper Free

AI over clocking: Manual

CPU Freq: 200

DRAM Clock: 400 MHz

Memory or Dim Reference voltage: 2.75 Volts

System performance: Standard

AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI 9200 or 9600 then 1.6 Volts suggested!*

Advanced/Chipset

Configure Dram timing by SPD: Disabled/User define

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T

SDRAM Burst Length: 8

Memory Acceleration Mode: Auto

USB Legacy Support: Disabled

All other settings should be set to default settings!

Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!

With the settings you tell me, the bad stick keeps giving me errors with memtest, and I don't have to wait 2/3 passes since he gives me error from test one. The other stick just runs fine with the very same settings. So what now ?

I updated to bios 1017.
