Some advice needed..

Hello guys !!

I have some questions about my new build (the one on my system specs) and I need some help to clarify them.. Bear with me please..

Firstly let me say that I got the H100i for cooling my i7 4770k..

ok, now the questions:

1) The Carbide 500R has a switch in the front panel that controls the speed of the 3 fans (2 front 120mm and 1 side 200mm).. Can someone please tell me, which position of the switch is the fastest? I cant see any difference in rotation speeds..

2) I have the 2 front 120mm fans and the side 200mm fan as an intake. The rear 120mm as an exhaust. The H100i is on top and is an exhaust too. Is that the optimal configuration?

3) I am currently at stock speeds for the cpu and XMP-profile1 (2400MHz)for the memory. Idling I get temps around 40-42C and on full load around 75-78C (using realtemp 3.70) with room temp around 25-27C.. Do you think its normal or do I have to reseat my H100i? Or have it as an intake? (the fans of the H100i are in performance mode).

4) I am getting 2 sp120 pwm high performance fans to try a push/pull configuration (if it fits) or replace the stock ones of the H100i.. Is it worth it?

5) I have installed the latest corsair link software (ver. 2.4.4948). The temps of the hard drives disappear and reappear sometimes. Current firmware of H100i is 1.0.5 and Hydro USB version 2.0.0 (options->devices tab). Do I need to upgrade firmware to 1.0.7? I don't have any rattling/noise issues..

Thanks guys and sorry for the extra long post :D:

Idealy you would want it as an intake so the radiator is getting the coolest air possible.

With such a huge memory overclock i would say you are right about where it should be.

This has been discussed numerous times here in these forums. A P/P set-up might gain you 2-5c at best. Most users see less than that . So no , it's not really worth the cost of the extra fans.

Yes, and along with the latest CL software.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys..

So peanutz94, if I make the H100i as an intake, should I leave the other fans as they are? or do you suggest a change? (back fan intake as well and side one exhaust for example?)

I also did a quick oc just to see how much temps would rise..

(sync all cores, 4.3GHz, 1.23Vcore, adaptive mode and I left memory at

2400MHz-xmp profile1).. Well at full load I got 98C !!

And one last thing, the latest corsair link software is the one I installed

(ver. 2.4.4948 if I am not mistaken).. Did you mean something else?

Did some more testing..

I followed peanutz94 suggestion and under-clocked the memory to 1333MHz, just to see if temps would fall..

Everything was left at stock speeds and auto in the bios

(sync all cores, auto vcore, auto speed etc)..

I took a screenshot after 1min 20sec of aida64 system stability test..

Fans of the H100i are working fine (performance mode), the pump too..

Cpu temp is quite high, right?

So I am thinking of re-applying TIM and re-seating the cpu block.. maybe it's not making good contact with the cpu??

Is it possible that the cpu is faulty?

WOW, I was really banking on your OC being the issue there.

definitely reapply the TIM and also check the back plate too as Madmecca suggested. They only go on one way and easily over looked.

Thanks Madmecca !!

Back plate is indeed installed upside down..

(the two cut-outs of the back plate for the screws of the cpu are not aligned correctly!!).

Its not loose though.. its tight..

Anyway, I will reapply TIM and reseat the block and align the black plate correctly and report back any changes!!

Thanks a lot guys !!!

Back for the results..

Installed back plate correctly (:sigh!:), re-applied TIM and re-seated the cpu block.. and voila: 20C temp drop on stock speeds of cpu and memory !!!!!

Even with oc, temps are quite lower (see pic)..

So, thanks again guys
