Sustained
I searched the Corsair site as well as these forums and could not find a definitive answer. I have a Dell XPS 15 (L521x) which currently has 8GB RAM, and I would like to run 16 GB. Every desktop I have built since 2002 has used Corsair RAM, but is there anything from Corsair for this laptop? Dell offers this 8GB Module: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A6994451&mfgpid=226611&chassisid=8560 ... but I would rather use Corsair brand memory. Can I run two of these modules to get to 16GB?

peanutz94
Hi Sustained, Dells can be extremely picky with aftermarket memory. Your system is not listed in the configurator , so there is no real way to give you a recommendation. In your case it might be best to purchase the memory directly from Dell. EDIT: Looking at the tech specs and the module pictured (if that is the correct pic) the vengeance 16gig kit should work just fine. But again, since your system is not listed there are no guarantees. http://www.corsair.com/us/memory-by-product-family/laptop-memory-upgrades/vengeance-16gb-high-performance-laptop-memory-upgrade-kit-cmsx16gx3m2a1600c10.html Just keep in mind that most Dell's have a locked BIOS which means that you may or may nor be able to configure these to run at 1600mhz. You may be limited to 1333mhz, unless the LT will pick up and auto detect the correct settings. Can I run two of these modules to get to 16GB? You can try what you like. However Corsair views this as "mixing" memory, since the two sticks have not been tested together. This is something they do not suggest or support because two modules(given the same exact part number) can actually be "incompatible" with each other. It's best to go with a matched set rather than two random modules
emy12
Hi, I have the same laptop L521x, upgrading to 16gb involves removing the motherboard. I assembled/disassembled over ten times this type of laptop, is not that difficult if you have some tech skills :) Corsair Vengeance CMSX16GX3M2A1866C10 1866 DDR3 running at 1600....it is working fine on it. When removing or upgrading DDRam on this machine, first thing you will notice when is turned on, a few beeps. Turn it off be holding the power button till powers off, than power it up again and should be fine...
