Cookybiscuit
Got a H100i thinking it wouldn't have pump noise issues, everything bad I'd read about them was long ago. Well I've got pump whine and its annoying the hell out of me, constant hum I can hear even with the case door closed. My case is full of sound dampening foam and yet I can still hear it. It's not the fans because I don't have any fans connected. Should I return it for another? Thanks.
wytnyt
if you want to a quieter one then yes but none will be totally quiet as any moving part will produce a noise.
Cookybiscuit
Thanks. It's just because I replaced a H60 with this, was shocked to find out you can't control the RPM of the pump on a H100i which seems completely ridiculous. The H60 was silent, on this the vibration goes through my desk and case and is super annoying. Going to contact the store and swap it then, thanks. wytnyt
you should be able to control the fans you cant control pump speed tho
Cookybiscuit
Yea thats too bad. Theres not like a modified firmware someone put out to change the pump speed? It's so stupid not being able to change the pump RPM.
wytnyt
why would you want to change its speed? it works best at its designed speed it cant safely go any higher and running it slower inhibits its performance...
Cookybiscuit
I'd gladly trade a few degrees to get rid of the stupid humming noise, and to save myself having to RMA a dozen coolers to get one that doesn't do it. It spins at 2200RPM, there are a million pumps that go up to 4000RPM+ so I don't see why this cant, and if it had the option to go slower, you could set up a 'fan' curve and have it slow and quiet when the CPU is idling, and speed up when the CPU is used so the fans drown out the pump anyway. Really backward choice in my opinion.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 13, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 13, 2013 To make sure its not something else I would temporarily disconnect the fans and see if the Noise goes away. If not you can try and RMA and we can replace it but the Pump will not be totally quiet. However, I would not expect you can hear over the normal fan noise. Cookybiscuit
Yea I had it running without any fans in, took it out of the system and just plugged in the SATA lead and it was silly loud, made the desk vibrate like mad. I'm going to return it to the store thanks.
