Using Dominator platinum with Corsair Link

Recommended Posts

I am running Dominator Platinum CMD32GXM4A1866C10 quad-set on a Asus Rampage IV Extreme.

With this setup i am using a H100I and a AX860I with Corsair link and like the usage of this. So now I am thinking about also connecting the ram to Corsair Link

I have a few questions about doing this.

1. What will I be able to see and monitor precisely in the Corsair Link software?

For example: can I see the temperature and voltages of each strip separately?

Maybe some pictures of screens can be usefull for helping people with this question.

2. Can I hook up the 4 DDR-stripes directly to the Linkcommander (using the digital connectors)?

3. I have a feeling the answer to the second question is going to be no, because of the use of the airflowpro-add-on.

If this is true, then I have the following question.

The ram is placed on this mainboard as followed. 2 ram's - cpu - 2 ram's.

(see this link for an image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/mikeysg/20130605_191003_zps07cf3b8f.jpg)

This would mean I need 2 airflow's pro's (one on each side)? Is there a work-around for this?

4. What will I be needing to hook up the DDR to Corsair link?

My understanding is the following:

* Corsair Airflow 2 GTL Cooling Fan Assembly

* AirFlow Pro

* Corsair Link Accessory Cable Kit

* Corsair Link Commander (Corsair Link Cooling Kit)

Is this correct?

thanks,

Viper.

1) Nope.. you see the average temperature of all the RAM

2) I don't believe so as no where does it say you can.

3) The Cables from the Airflow Pro -> RAM are not very long so you will (if you are going that way) 2 of them if you want to use ram on both sides.

4) Yes..

Personally I got one and hooked it up (as I thought it would look nice) but removed it shortly after as it really didn't give me much apart from some lights on top. I just went to the light strips (as you have) which look better anyway and does ram really need cooling with the large heatsinks on them.

This may help with what is shown in the Airflow Pro.

thank you for the reply's.

@ ramguy;

but what I was asking for, is how it looks in the corsair-link-software.

As Lennon pointed out, only the average temps will be visible. Can I manage more from within the software? For example, regulate/setup the fan speed?

If You have some pictures/screenshots of that, that would be welcome.

Can you confirm that the RAM-stripes cant be hooked up to the link-commander directly?

If not, will the wires of 1 airflow pro be long enough to reach all 4 modules, in the setup as described in my first post?

thanx.

From what I have been reading the cables that come with the Airflow Pro are just to connect to the memory modules, a maximum of 6. You need to buy some sort of cable kit that provides the one cable you need to plug in somewhere on the Airflow Pro to the Commander. I have not seen any picture that where to plug in this cable on the Airflow Pro.

It would be nice if Corsair Link software could also show the memory temperature and adjust the Airflow 2 fan speed accordingly. I am thinking of plugging these fans into an optional CPU fan header on my motherboard.

Here you go..

I hooked Airflow pro to my commander..

1st Picture is Airflow Pro showing in the Devices Section of Corsair Link

attachment.php?attachmentid=13116&d=1376188491

2nd Picture shows what you get from the Device.. (The new items on the left had side)

(See Airflow Pro 3 image link below for larger image if you cannot read it)

attachment.php?attachmentid=13119&stc=1&d=1376189815 (See Airflow Pro 3 image link below for larger image if you cannot read it)

Memory Activity and Memory Average Temperature comes from the Airflow Pro being Connected to the Commander and the Extra Fan comes from the Airflow 2 (FAN) being connected to the Cooling Node. (I didn't have the Airflow Pro actually connected to the RAM so thus the reason why memory activity and avg Temp shows 0)

Just to Note: When the Airflow 2 FAN is connected to the Cooling Node it will only run at 100% without it ticking away and making a lot of noise (Same Problem as when Connecting SP120 (non PWM) Fans to a Cooling Node so being connected to the Cooling Node isn't very good. Better to connect it to a motherboard header. (but then Corsair Link won't be able to control the FAN)

Running at 100% isn't very quiet at all.

Here is a Picture which will clear it up.

Left - To power (Cable Comes with Airflow Pro)

Middle - Up to 6 RAM connectors (6 of these Wires come with the Airflow Pro) - I only had 4 of them plugged in

Right = From Commander to Airflow Pro (You need to Buy the Corsair Link Accessory Cable Kit which will come with one of these cables)
