Acertified
Has anyone tried the New Corsair Vengeance Pro series yet? I ordered some to replace my regular Corsair Vengeance and they arrived today. I was so excited until it came time to install them. On one of the memory modules the heat sink literally fell apart in my hands with the smallest amount of pressure. The double sided thermal tape that is used was apparently not strong enough or sticky enough and was just sliding up and down on the memory module. The other module was fine. The other observation to note is that the colored aluminum pieces on the top feel very loose. They are apparently replaceable but the whole module just felt flimsy. I figured being the pro series that these would be better built. Time to RMA and wait another week before I can test them
peanutz94
Any chance you could post a pic of your modules? I don't doubt you. I'm sure the Corsair Employee's would like to get a look at them They may even want to see them first hand so if you have already submitted a ticket please post your case number or RMA number here. If you have not yet , please do so. Don't even test them. It's just best to get them replaced before any further possible damage could occur. Acertified
They are packaged up and on their way back to Newegg where they were purchased from.
Yellowbeard
I've reported this to our product manager. We're looking into it.
Acertified
Thank You... Hopefully it was just a quality control issue on this module. If you need more detailed information or my RMA information per Newegg, I will be happy to provide it.
Yellowbeard
If we need that info, one of the TS guys will contact you. Once it's in Newegg's system, I'm not sure there's any hope of finding it. Sorry for your troubles
Acertified
Good News!!! The replacement memory arrived and the heatsinks are not moving around like on the previous set. The top colored replaceable pieces still feel quite loose but my guess it that it is not a big issue as they do snap off but it does make them feel a little flimsy and cheap. It is my understanding that you can swap them out with different colors but I read that in a review of the memory and have not confirmed this as being true. Overall I am satisfied with the memory and was able to successfully get it to run at it's advertised speed of 1866MHz but I had to do some tweaking. I have the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z motherboard that is a little picky on RAM and had to bump up the voltage slightly for it to work correctly and run at 1866MHz. It runs quite stable and I have NO plans on overclocking the memory above 1866 anytime soon. Newegg did an awesome job with the whole RMA process and I am just waiting for the refund to go back into my bank account. (FYI... I ordered a new set from Newegg because they did not offer an Expedited or Advanced RMA and sent the defective memory back for a refund. It would of doubled my time waiting for them to receive the defective memory and then send the replacement memory)

No, those are the Dominator Platinums that have changeable light bars that are different colors.
Acertified
So what is the point of the removable bars on top of the Pro series?
peanutz94
So what is the point of the removable bars on top of the Pro series? They are not supposed to be or designed to be removed.
Acertified
I am not doubting you but there is conflicting information. This is a quote from the review at hitechlegion.com "The Vengeance Pro memory kit updates the heat spreader design of the original Vengeance memory modules slightly with the addition of a removable accent clip." And with the fact that they snap off so easily and are fairly loose to begin with, I would think that they were made to be removable. This has been the same on both sets of memory. peanutz94
Hmm, that would be a first for me. There isn't anything in the product description here on their site. They’re available in multiple colors to let you match your Vengeance Pro memory to your system’s color scheme. As a bonus, they’re priced to deliver class-leading value, so you’ll have more room left in your system build budget. Designed to Show Off The heat spreader doesn’t just allow Vengeance Pro Series to run better – the aggressive yet refined form factor looks great in showcase systems. http://www.corsair.com/us/memory-by-product-family/vengeance-pro-series-memory/vengeance-pro-series-32gb-4-x-8gb-ddr3-dram-2400mhz-c9-memory-kit-cmy32gx3m4a2400c10r.html There's nothing there that says they are removable. I also wonder about third party reviews sometimes. Just because of that , i have to say I'm not exactly 100%, but i don't believe they were "designed" to be removable. I'll have to let one of the Corsair guys confirm this , sorry!
Acertified
I agree with you as I could not see anything official referring to them being swappable or removable myself but they do snap off with very little pressure and appear to be designed that way for some reason. Hopefully someone will chime in as to their purpose. Thanks for your input
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 14, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 14, 2013 Hi Acertified, The Vengeance Pro Series top clip is not designed to be replaceable in the field. While it comes off with moderate force in most circumstance, it puts stress on the heatspreader that transfers to the ICs. This has potential to impact the solder points.
