Recommended Posts

I bought two sticks of 512MB ValueSelect RAM from newegg.com. One of the sticks went bad. It initially worked but later died. I bought the ram approx 60 days ago. Newegg's return policy is for 30 days only. Can I RMA one this one 512mb stick? Part number: Value Select VS32M8-5 PS130043

Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

AMD64 3000+

MSI K8N Neo-Platinum

All BIOS settings are on fail safe defaults.

Memory timings are set to 2.5, 3 ,3, 8, 2T. I have two of these sticks. The bad one I tried in each of the three ddr slots on my mobo. It didn't work on any of them. The good one works in all three slots.

/edit fsb @ ddr400 or 200mhz

Please make sure you have the latest BIOS installed in your MB and load optimized/optimal default settings, and try the following BIOS settings.;

Advanced Chipset:

Memclock Mode: Manual (400)

Bank Interleaving: 4/Enabled

Burst Lenght: 4

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

Frequency Voltage Control:

Spread Spectrum: Enabled

CPU FSB Clock: 200

DDR Voltage: 2.7/2.75 Volts

All other settings should be set to default settings!

Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! I would run the test for at least 2-3 passes to be sure!

The memory doesnt boot! I have the latest BIOS, once again memory timings are set to 2.5,3,3,8. and 2t. I increased the voltage memory and tried using mem test. The memory will not post, there is no way I can use mem test. The module is dead..
