TwinX-3200XL stability

RAM GUY

I use an Asus A7N8X Deluxe Ver. 2.0, bios 1007, with an Athlon XP 3200+ and 380Watt Antec True Power. I have the TwinX-3200XL 1024MB running at 200MHz in sync with the CPU at timings 2-2-2-10. The bios is set to user defined (not SPD) with voltage 2.7 on the RAM. Spread spectrum disabled, CPU interface 2T. The other bios settings are default... USB legacy support enabled.

Memtest86 ver 3.0 gave no errors on the standard tests, 1 pass only. BUT THE PROBLEM is that the system restarts randomly when the memory is under high load in games or media encoding. The Ram modules are also very hot to the touch under load, if that is a concern (hard-pressed to touch it for 10 seconds at times). When running my old RAM 512MB TwinX-3200C2 at 205MHz with timings 2-3-2-6, the system was stable. So I am suspicious of the 3200XL RAM. Any help would be appreciated.

Well they will run warmer than C2, if you have a thermometer like you use for out side. You can attach the probe to the side of the module and get an idea of how hot they are getting. But I have not seen any issues with these and running so hot you cannot touch them. In addition, what is your room temp? And what is the inside case temp?

I checked the RAM's tempurature with a thermal diode that came with my Antec case, and under load, it is 53 degrees celcius. The case tempurature is 31 and the room temp is 24. Now, that I've seen the tempuratures, I doubt that it's an issue.

Could the voltage be too low at 2.7 for stability?
