Krabbe
Hi, I've just installed an H100i to the front of the Fractal Design R4 case. After some tweaking, I managed to install the radiator to the front of the case. In order to enable the tubing to reach the front, I had to install the fans in front of the radiator, instead of behind as shown in the installation guide. For some reason, two screws can't be screwed in this way - they appear to be too small in diameter, so they just go into the holes without gripping them properly. The weird thing is, that I only had this problem with two screws - the rest of the screws grips the holes just right. I tried to use other screws, but the issue comes from variance in the radiator holes, not a difference in screws. Is this normal, or is there something wrong with the two mentioned radiator holes? I might add that the unit works fine as such, but there is a buzzing noise coming from the fans, which I suspect might be because the fans cant be secured well enough when one screw on each fan can't grip the radiator holes. peanutz94
The screw holes are easy to strip out if you tried to tighten them down pretty tight. The screws should be run up all the way and then just snugged down. The only way to fix it would be to have the unit replaced. I might add that the unit works fine as such, but there is a buzzing noise coming from the fans, which I suspect might be because the fans cant be secured well enough when one screw on each fan can't grip the radiator holes. Did your unit come with 3 or 4 pin fans? Buzzing was associated with the original 3 pin fans and Corsair offers a PWm upgrade set completely free of charge. Krabbe
If I managed to strip them down that easily, it is some terrible quality metal used for the radiators I must say, especially for a 100$ product! My unit came with 4 pin fans.
peanutz94
I would go ahead and have it replaced. If you can still return it to your place of purchase that would probably be the best place to start. If they can not or will not help you then please use the link on the left to request an RMA. And no worries about the screw holes I just had to mention it. There are a lot of first time builders out there that would just a soon use a torque wrench on fans and such. I have only seen one or two reports of the screw holes being faulty on a new unit. So it's not something i would say is "common" or a "known issue"
Krabbe
When I install hardware with moving parts that can create vibration sounds, I tighten the screws to make sure that such sounds wont appear. But with the +5 computers I've built, + a lot of hardware switching, I have never tried to strip down a screw hole before, so I don't think I'm applying too much pressure as such.. So just to make sure I understand you correct: You think it's a faulty unit and that I should be able to get it replaced?
