Recommended pump speed for H80i

This is my first time using water cooling and I have a question about the pump speed. I spent most of my adult life as an automotive mechanic. I am no computer expert. When a car overheats many people remove their thermostat. This makes the car run hotter. Besides regulating the engine temperatures the thermostat also restricts the flow of coolant. Unless the coolant stays in the radiator long enough to allow airflow to remove the heat, the coolant returns to the engine almost as hot as when it entered the radiator. My H80i pump speed increases with the temperature since it is connected to the CPU pins on the mobo. Is it possible for the pump to run too fast and not allow the radiator to cool the water before it returns to the CPU block? Has anyone ever investigated if a slower pump speed actually cools better? So far I am not disappointed with my H80i although I have the airflow exiting my case rather than intaking air because of my video boards. My CPU temps are averaging 7-10 degrees cooler than my CM V8 or Zalman CNPS 9700 and my video boards are also running around 10 degrees cooler. Should I just find an optimal fixed speed for the pump? I have a custom profile for the fans but I might have made it a little too aggressive.

Thanks for the reply. Is it safe to say that the pump speed is regulated internally according to its teperature regardless of the BIOS setting for my CPU fan connector?

pump is regulated, not governed by temp or anything.

I thought with my original BIOS CPU fan curve settings that my H80i pump was starting at 1700 and increasing to 2200 RPM but I may have been mistaken. The H80i pump is currently locked at 2200 RPM and doesn't vary regardless of my temps but I changed the fan's BIOS from step1 to step4. Tomorrow I will set the CPU fan in my BIOS to Performance (full on) and let the LINK_2 software control the H80i fan profiles. Thanks for all of the help.

Pump rpm well always be around 2200+/-. Coolant speed through the radiator can make a significant difference in the cooling ability. Fan RPM makes a big difference with my 80i, just 200-300 rpm well pull temps down pretty well.
