tarantules Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Hello :) I've changed my pc configuration recently from a Gigabyte P35-DS3R with Core2Duo E6550 and 2X2GB Kingston HyperX 1333MHz DDR3 WinXP Pro 32bit. My new synthesis based on Asus Rampage II Extreme with Core i7-965 Extreme edition and Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with the same memory modules as previous. I want to upgrade my memory to 12GB and I want to buy a triple channel kit because I saw that my motherboard and CPU supports it. I was intend to buy the CORSAIR 12GB 1600MHz CMP12GX3M3A1600C9 with DHX but I find on Corsair's Memory Finder tool that the only options I have is the XMS3 12GB CMX12GX3M3A2000C9 kit, the Vengeance 12GB CMZ12GX3M3A2000C10 kit and the Vengeance 12GB CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9. If I buy the Dominator kit I will have any compatibility problems? I found the kit at 112 euros and I don't want to go higher if it is possible. What kit you should advice me to buy? I have to mention that I'm not intend to overclock any part of my pc. Thanks
peanutz94 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Any of Corsairs triple channel kits would be compatible with your new system. What the memory finder lists is just sets that they specifically tested with your specific MB. But that doesn't mean that other kits are not compatible. I personally use a 24 gig kit of the Dominators with my x58 board that were not on the list either, but run great. And I am sure the Dominators you have chosen would run equally as well. The 2000mhz modules, may be compatible, but you may have a hard time actually reaching the full 2000mhz. The first gen I7's only have a 1066mhz memory controller and most will have trouble overclocking memory to 2000mhz. 1600-1866mhz is about the sweet spot for these CPU's. After you install the memory you will need to enable the XMP profile in your BIOS to get them to run at the full 1600mhz.
