High temperatures with H100i

Hello,

I've been using the H100i for about a month now but have not been happy at all with the temperatures that I am getting.

Right now as I am typing this the temperature of my stock i5 2500k is 49c.

I really am running out of ideas.

Here are my system specs:

Mobo: Asus P8Z77-V LX2

CPU: i5 2500k stock speed (3.3ghz - 3.7ghz turbo)

Video card: EVGA GTX670 FTW

RAM: 8 GB 1600mhz corsair vengeance

Things I've tried:

1. Cleaning thermal paste (Arctic Silver 5, reapplying in all kinds of methods, line, pea, spread

2. Reseating by tightening screws in X pattern

3. Adding washers to the back plate

4. Applying different amounts of thermal paste

5. Lowering cpu voltage

6. Push pull configuration

7. Exhaust config

8. Intake config

Zzzzzzzzzz what else is there to do?

When I touch the tubes, one of them is super hot the other is cool so it is pumping. Pump showing at ~2.2k rpm

Fans set to balanced on corsair link. I also have a good tower with excellent airflow and great cable management.

his fans are on balanced mode so grouping isnt an issue.

you went into good detail on your troubleshooting which avoids asking unneeded questions.

so well in fact not many other things to check

one tho, rather important is what type of fans are you using,it takes a good sp fan to get air thru the rad to cool.

dont take this wrong but are both fan flowing the same direction?

it seems like the water isnt being cooled in the rad.

Thank you both for your reply.

Both fans are blowing in the same direction (Ones that came with the H100i), I currently have them blowing air through the Rad and out of the case at the top.

One of the tubes is hot and the other is very cool, so I'm assuming the water is being cooled by the rad.

Any other ideas?

I probably should mention this, a few weeks ago, on an old mobo, one of the socket pins got bent and I turned the PC on, checked the temps and the CPU was overheating. I bought a new mobo and installed everything again, temps are now as shown on screenshot.

Thanks again!

Yeah man you've done pretty much everything you can do. With those ambients and temps from drives etc your h100i temps should be fairly close to your drive temps just pup putting around the desktop.

You can try turning your sys tem sideways etc to see if theres a possible air bubble, but other than that I don't think its working correctly.

Ur picks look like you have Intel power saving features off. Speed step and all that jazz. You have no load but cpuz is showing 37x100 and 1.25v. Ur temps look perfectly normal for idle at 1.25v. I don't know why everyone is saying ur temps are so bad core temp says max 58°C with 1.25v or 1.33v in core temp. Whatever one is right (probably CPUz) is high either way for a stock 2500k. Run prime95 for 10 minutes and you'll know if its actually bad. IMO if Intel features are off (Which they are since your at max speed and voltage with just a browser open) Your temps are normal.

I think we spoke this morning and your room temp is about 25-27 Deg C and you had the fan sucking air from inside the case, And I suggest a mix of thermal compound so please try some of the things I suggested and lets see how it performs just watch the CPS that are around the CPU on that MB: Specifically these caps circled in this Pic:

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!

Ram Guy, I tried the thermal compound mixture and there was a -5c change, I also tried changing the positions of the fans and again no change.

I was at around 45-50c idle and I just installed my old CM hyper 212 + and my temps are 33-40c.

HOODedAssault, I ran Prime 95 and Intel Burn test and the temps were getting scary... 90 - 92 c all after about 30 seconds!

I'm still trying things out, so next thing will be to install the H100i on a friends computer and see how well it performs.

Thanks again for the help.

prime 95 and intelburntest stresses the cpu...92C is fine if only for a few minutes...heck mine (its an i7 but still) gets up to 105C sometimes...although the i5 can only get up to 98C...is this overclocked? because if you got 90C stock then thats way too hot

oh ok...3.7ghz...ok still hot though but not extreme

his fans are on balanced mode so grouping isnt an issue.

Since when? Grouping can be changed, no matter what mode you're on. If the fans are responding to the wrong component, you won't get expected results.

having his fans running at max rpm vs. balanced rpm will not solve his problem of having a water temp of 44c.,obviously theres another issue at play here.

  • 10 months later...

Well everyone here missed the part when someone said that the one tube was scolding hot and the other was cool to the touch. Someone replied and gave him the correct answer and all of you kept going about other things. I have the H80i and it did the same as Nut's did so I went to best buy and decided to buy the 100i at cost :( but I had the comfort of returning it if it didn't work. so I installed this monster and bam I went from 58c to 30c, I was impressed. Now I am concerned because my h100i is doing 38c to 40c and that doesn't look good. the tubes are both cool so that's good. I have to RMA this 80i real soon here so I don't loose my money.

Oh a word of advice to everyone. PSU Power Supply is very Crucial so make sure you buy an expensive Power Supply because if it goes bad it will kill everything on your computer. I had many shut downs with the 80i so I spent $140 (Cringe) for a 850 watt PSU from Thermaltake that comes with all the bells and Gold standard whistles. I am super satisfied with the power distribution. I feel that I have room for that second video card which I will be getting on Black Friday this year.
