Corsair H100i Fan Problems

Hey everyone,

So this morning I woke up and turned my PC on, and my H100i radiator fans (they are the stock fans) wouldnt turn on. They would start to spin as i pressed the power button, but then it was like power got cut to them and they stopped spinning. After fiddling around, i swapped the cable to the other Corsair Link port on the cooler (and i also tried using the other Corsair Link cable that came with the cooler) and the fans spin up like normal. I tried it again in the original port with different fans and they didnt spin up normally, so i concluded that the port must be buggered. No big issue i thought, i only need one port anyway, and one still works. But here is the problem, now the H100i fans wont show up in the Corsair Link software. I have tried unplugging the USB cable from the motherboard and letting it sit for 5 minutes, i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Corsair Link software (deleting the files in appdata), and i have also tried going back to version 2.20 (i was originally on 2.3.4816).

Can anyone provide any help at all on this?

Thank you,

Morgan

Edit - Also, the H100i is now not even showing up in the Corsair Link software. One other thing is one of the fans is running at the desired RPM speed (well its quiet, and i wanted it on the quiet settings), however the other fan is at 100%. Another thing, not sure if its related or not, is last night i did some Windows Updates, they were security updates for .NET Framework 4

hmm, this morning i decided to do some cable management, and after turning my computer on, only the 2nd set of fans ( 3 and 4 on the second port ) were working, the 1 and 2 fans on the first port weren't

it seems like only the 3 and 4 fans were showing on CL2, after unistalling and reinstalling the software, now none of the fans are showing up on the cl2

and as a matter of fact not one stitch of info is showing up, even tho everythign else shows up (axi1200, both 660ti's, both ssds etc etc)

i am using the same CL as above, tried f/w versions 1.0.5 and 1.0.6

i didn't do any windows updates

after installing 2.4.4948 the temps and fan speed of the 1200 has stoppe dshowing up

reverting back to the old version has not helped

@Morgan12195

Have you tried reinstalling the software or .NET Framework?

When you can get the cooler to be detected, try the FW update and see if that helps.

Have you tried a miniUSB B to Type A cable?

@WesternDreaming

Is the cooler detected in the devices page?

Hello Toasted,

I am unable to try it with the different USB cable as I do not have one unfortunately, although I have tried the Corsair Link USB cable in different USB ports on the motherboard.

I am re-installing the .NET Framework now, fingers crossed the issue lied with that or something.

Here is a picture of all the USB devices plugged in to my computer. Not sure if its picking up the Corsair Link cable or not

Thank you,

Edit: Re-installing the .NET Framework hasn't fixed anything

Hello Toasted,

I do have one of those cables, I tried it out just then and nothing came up in Devices and Printers about an "Integrated USB Bridge".

I also did a system restore to the day before I had the issue to see if maybe the Windows updates had anything to do with it and obviously not. Does this mean my H100i unit is faulty?

Check Device Manager and see if its listed as an Unknown Device.

If it's not there and the cooler is under 30 days old, contact your seller and ask if they can replace it for you or request an RMA to replace the cooler.

Hello Toasted,

I have checked and the H100i is not listed as an "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.

If I decide to RMA the unit, does Corsair send me out a new H100i, and then I send back the old one, or do I send in my one, they test it, and then see if it is faulty? I can't really have any down time as this is my only computer and I use it to do work on it

Request an RMA then contact customer service and ask for a Advanced RMA, this will require a valid CC.

An advanced RMA means Corsair will send you the replacement H100i first. When you receive it, you can send yours back. You will only be charged if they have not received your unit in the given timeframe.

You can contact customer service via Skype for free by calling their toll-free number (on the Website).

Corsair opening hours in AU.

Ok then, thank you, I will be sure to do that. When you say I will be charged if Corsair hasn't received my unit in the timeframe, what exactly does that mean? How long is the time frame? If they charge me will the refund me if they receive the unit shortly after?

it means if corsair doesnt receive your bad unit in around 3-4 weeks your c.c. will be charged for the new one.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hey everyone,

I haven't got around to doing the RMA (although will do so shortly), however I do have an update. I decided to plug the USB cable that came with the H100i unit back in after it being unplugged for a fortnight or so, and when I turned my computer on the H100i lights would turn on for a split second before turning off, then when my computer got to the desktop it said that the USB device was unable to be installed. Anything that can be done to fix this?

May I ask a question here? I logged onto this site to check water cooling options for my new build on a Haswell 4770K. I have 140mm fans. I see no H100i 140mm. So the old series H100 is the only option. After reading all the issues with these grinding and fan stoppage issues there seems not to be a fix except to keep RMAing to get a good one. If there have not been any physical improvements then should I just go back to air? Sorry but I have never built a PC before and was intrigued w AIO water cooling.

I think you need to re-flash the h100i. (Not a permanent fix, but it would probably get the fans going)

When you reinstalled the software, did you remove both the %appdata%/corsair files and the corsair folder under program files (x86)?

The h100 has a reset button, but I can't find if the h100i does or not. If it does, you can hold the reset for 30 seconds and reboot.

If I'm not mistaken, Corsair H110 is 140mm.

If I'm not mistaken, Corsair H110 is 140mm.

h110 is a 280mm radiator with twin 140 mm fans. It is a different OEM than the h100 and h100i.

I seem to have a stable h100i now (knock on wood), but if it fails again I will just buy a h110 and not use the link software. 140mm fans at max don't bother me at all.

It would mean that I would have to trash the LEDs, but that's easy to fix.
