Ticket #6028654

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I've got 2 packs of CMZ16GX3M2A1866C9 ( total of 4 sticks ) that are faulty ( at least after what I could test on 2 systems ).

I just filled RMA request in ticket #6028654.

The problem is I couldn't add second ( exactly the same ) pack of memories to RMA form.

My question is:

Can I put all of RAM in one package or I have to fill another RMA req?

Thanks in advance.

--------------------BIG EDIT---------------------------

Ha.

Now I probably will have to remove my RMA request.

I did something unusual ( I thought, I got nothing to loose ),

I undervolted memories from 1.5V to 1.42V ( most of the time people up the voltage to get stability ) and I get only 30 errors on test #7 in memtest.

So for now:

1333MHz

1.42V

9-9-9-24

This is little-bit crazy, because I've tested all of the memories on 2 totally different systems - and both of them showed errors on tests from 4 to 9.

Jeez, this mems can be pain in the ***.

But I'm getting somewhere at least.

I'll keep RMA for little bit more & test memories through the night at little bit different settings.

What is command rate set to? It should be set to 2T? And I would try and set the memory Voltage to 1.6 Volts. If you still get errors you should be testing them one module at a time and make sure you dont mix the two sets up that may cause errors like this.

Sorry for late response.

Command rate is 2T.

When I set 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 1,4V 2T in memtest test "moving inversions 32-bit" I've got about 30 errors on all of 32GB of mem & no errors in other tests.

When I set higher voltage 1,5V to 1,6V I get thousand of errors in "moving inversions" test & bunch of errors in tests from 4-9.

When I will have time, I'll test them separately & give You info how that went.

Biggest mystery is why they need lower voltage than nominal 1.5V.

Additional info.

I tested all sticks separately:

stick 1 - no errors

stick 2 - 1 error in memtest+ test 6 ( moving inversions, 32 bit pattern ) ~5GB

stick 3 - 1 error in memtest+ test 6 ( moving inversions, 32 bit pattern ) ~7GB

stick 4 - 20 errors in memtest+ test 6 ( moving inversions, 32 bit pattern )

Memories tested on 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 @ 1,4V 2T.

RAM GUY - I already have ticket assigned ( Ticket

6028654 ), but I don't know if I can put 2 of memory packs on one ticket ( I couldn't add another pack of the same memories into RMA ).

----EDIT----

My ticket was updated - I can send all 4 memory sticks on one RMA.

Sending on monday.

I have asked for the memory to be sent to my attention

But the errors you are getting would suggest it may not be the memory that is the issue.

And we do not support mixing memory like this. so I would install just one set that are matched and then load setup defaults then set the memory frequency to 1.55 Volts and set the timings to AUTO and set command Rate to 2T and then disable legacy USB if this is an ASUS MB and test them with http://www.memtest.org

OK

I did some more test.

I've tested memories on:

1,330V 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 2T

& now I get no errors when testing single or all sticks at one time ( 3 full passes ).

So now I don't know what to do now.

Everything works as expected, except voltage.

If its working then you are done. With 4 modules your CPU only supports DDR1333 so it is working as it should it seems.

I'm only thinking about voltage - 1,33V when they should work on 1,5V.

Did You ever seen such behavior? ( FX-8320 + GA-990FXA-UD3 rev 1.1)

1

I've tested them for a long time & they are working without a problem, so they are staying with Me.

2

Is it enough that I close ticket, or I have to somehow remove my RMA?

3

Big thanks for your help.

If they will run at less Voltage that advertised that is better for the system but I suspect there may be a BIOS issue in this case that will likely be resolved in a future Update from the MB Maker.
