"Bricked" H100i USB connection

Im having a few, very strange, and irritating issues with my H100i cooling block.

I turned on my PC today, and it failed to boot by sitting at POST with a endlessly blinking underscore mark. So, I went in my case and the Corsair logo on the cooling block was not illuminated. I reseated all the connections, turned my computer back on, the LED came on, fans via the 4-pin Corsair splitter (directly into the block) at 100%, then the LED turned off 5 seconds later and fans dropped to i'd estimate, 50-75%. and there was the endless blinking underscore again. Then, I disconnected the USB connection, restarted, booted to Windows just fine but still with only 5 seconds on the LED and a drop to 50-75% fan speed. I opened Corsair Link, and it detects nothing.

I attempted a standard mini-USB plug in while my computer was on for a detection, but still - nothing -, preventing a firmware flash that I was hoping would fix anything wrong.

To isolate any problem with my desktop, BIOS, or *something*, I connected the electrical connections to my desktop PSU but plugged the mini-USB cable to my laptop (already booted into Windows). Corsair Link detects my H100i and reports the 2 fans RPM and the pump when I give power it power for the time the LED is on, but when the LED goes off, it disconnects, and the Corsair Link stats freeze.

"Bricked" is the closest thing I could come up with for how this is behaving .

Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have tried everything I could think of. RMA is my last resort.

these coolers cannot cause what your describing.

failing to post is an indication of a memory chip failing, try reseating and or running with one chip.

It doesn't cause it to fail to POST, it causes it to stall during the initial device detection after turning the computer on. Sorry, I may have worded it wrong.

The moment I unplug the USB connection to the cooling block, the blinking underscore disappears and it boots up as normal.

that happened to me i found out i had a faulty fan controller on the H80i

it would delay bios about 15-20 seconds sometimes it would slow my ssd down so much my computer would freeze and sometimes it would give me about 5 fps on my whole computer

well, it seems I don't actually get an endless underscore blinking during POST with the USB connection in. it took exactly 3 minutes and 1 second for it to (I assume) give up attempting to detect what I had plugged in and start booting normally...

still, no detection or LED in Windows :(

i see, like many times i suggested is swapping usb ports,it may have a conflict with another usb device, you can also try a usb/mini usb cable and run it to an exterior rear usb port.

yes, I have tried multiple USB configs and cables including connecting it to my laptop (as I noted in my second half of the post)

Yup I rmaed it

well, I think i'll just finish up the RMA process and get this over with. I don't feel like going into my case again for the umpteenth time, but neither do I see any way to have this repaired on my own if it doesn't even hold power.

did your replacement come with thermal paste pre-applied like stock or was it a barebones clean unit?

it will be a new unit with pre applied Tim

ya your basically getting a new boxed up cooler :) itll have all the stuff...

its basically going to be like you just bought it from the store

awesome, thanks.

its starting to scare me now though. every now and then the fans RPM drop to near zero then back to full to a few seconds later, making all sorts of noises along the way

hopefully ill get an answer before Monday is done. ticket has been in for almost a day now.

edit: one of the four 3-pins completely stopped providing power
