djndesign
I've tried searching for the answer to my problem to no avail. I bought an AX1200i back in October of 2012. Everything was fine for the first three months until I started getting the electrical buzzing that seems common in these forums. Honestly I can handle the buzzing but I also developed another problem at the same time which I cannot find an explanation for. I have an HP laptop computer and whenever I am using it while plugged into its AC power supply, my AX1200i in my DESKTOP begins making these chirping noises for a lack of a better term. When using the laptop on battery there is no interference. My system is very stable except for when this chirping is happening and has actually locked up a couple of times but only when my laptop was running and plugged in. Is this some kind of EMI? I haven't been able to find any answers.
Tokolozi
Sounds to me you have some coil whine as your first problem, the second problem sounds like your laptops power brick putting some kind of interference in your power lines/air. Have you tried placing your laptops AC adapter further away from your PC or trying a different socket. Also at what loads does the first problem occur, while idle, medium or high load? djndesign
The buzzing is present from power on and during idle with small fluctuation during load. I'm not too concerned with the coil whine but I would like to be able to use both my laptop and desktop at the same time and in the same room. I have tried plugging my laptop into a room about 30 feet away and it has the same effect. Thanks for your reply.
Tokolozi
30ft is ussually enough to get rid of EMI, so maybe your laptops power supply is putting some bad frequency/power back on your power lines (imagine like you switching on your lights and the radio crackling). you could try a UPS but these are usually expensive so if you know someone with one, you could maybe ask to borrow one?? Possibly bad grounding in the house is prime suspect for the noise since swapping outlets makes no difference. @djndesign I would go ahead and have it replaced just to be sure, but if you get a second unit that does the exact same thing, then i would think about calling an electrician.
