AX760i's Flawed/Faulty

So let me first start with my story:

About 3 weeks ago my system suddenly powered off while gaming. I attempted to restart my PC but without luck. Then I shut the PSU off for a couple of minutes and tried again, still no luck. After this I unplugged all the internal cables and attempted the self test feature of the PSU. When I did this i got a red test light, which indicates a internal fault as far as i can make out.

I Went online and requested a RMA on the Corsair website. I got a response about two days later and a RMA adress to ship it to. Due to school I could only send my PSU in a couple of days later (18th of May), because of some holidays here in Belgium the quickest the package could be sent was the next Wednesday (22nd). But I thought all is well, at least I would have my rig working again in a week or so...

But so i thought, today my replacement AX760i arrived (a brand new one, fully packaged and all). Guess what.... It's DOA. I though Corsair was a good brand to buy from, seeing as almost every fora likes their products. So that's why almost half my PC consists of corsair "premium" products. But quite frankly I'm getting my doubts about these PSU, not all their products, more direct the AX760i's. :(:

Both the PSU's failed with almost no use, the second one wasn't even connected yet. I got it out of it's box and immediately did a self test on it (no wires connected to it except the mains) and got confronted with the red light of doom again. Also i noticed that the store I bought it from removed this exact model from their product line. Not the AXi Series but just the 760's, so this leaves me with a lot of questions, one of them being: Are the 760's just doomed from the start??

Also I would like to add that every time I need to RMA a product it costs me aprox. €10, money I work hard for as a student and not getting any benefits from seeing as my PC is just a pile of components neatly installed in a case for now... I really don't want to wait another week to get my system up and running again seeing I only had it alive for about a week after saving up for almost half a year. But i looks like I'm forced to do this thanks to corsair.

Are you sure it's DOA? Have you tried to start it with a paperclip ? I just wanted to make sure you weren't judging the PSU to be dead because the fan doesn't spinning.

If you have to RMA it again , let them know this is a second return and they will cover the shipping costs both ways. And you can always ask for an advanced replacement if you call in to CS.

You can use SKPYE to make the call from anywhere around the world for nothing.

Do you have any cables hooked to the PSU? The self test will fail if any cables are attatched.

Have you tried to actually power your system with it?

EDIT: NVM I missed your earlier comments.

However I would try powering your system first before you send it back.

If i connect it to my system i have the same problem I had with the first psu. It's displaying the exact same "symtoms" as the last one, only this wone didn't work at all. The last one worked atleast for a week or two before it gave in.

Weird thing is that the first one didn't show any signs of breaking before it happend. I was just playing a game when suddenly it shut down. no screen tearing/ artifacts/ sudden stops or anything like that. Just sudden death.

Are you 100% sure the MB isn't dead? That really sounds more like your MB is bad.

The only way to test it for sure is with a known good PSU. Would you have a friend or someone willing to lend you a PSU just to test the board with?

But why doesn't the paperclip or self test work then. Don't have friends that can lend me their PSU's most of them don't even have motherboards with a 24pin plug on them and the others would not be happy if i ask them to take their rig apart.

I must say my AXi 760 had the same fate last night, I was editing a few videos, and BAM my computer just randomly went down. I thought at first that maybe the power in my sockets went, however my surge protected extension proved me wrong. I also have the red light on the self test. Yes I have unplugged everything and used the test only but to no avail. Also I have only had it roughly 2 months. No sign of any problems at all and the fan was completely silent most of the time as I wasn't drawing too much power from it. All my components are okay and I am back to using my OCZ ZX, however it's so freaking noisy if I ramp up the volts going through my 3570k so I can't wait for my AXi to be replaced despite it breaking down so soon.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I purchased an AX760i about 6 months ago and had the same problem with it. I ended up getting a replacement and everything seemed to be working fine with the replacement until today. The same thing seems to be happening again. Granted it just started happening today so maybe it's something else (I'll attempt to isolate the problem if it doesn't go away). Just wondering if there is a known issue with the PSU or if anybody else is having the same experience. If the same thing is gonna keep happening I'd rather just buy another PSU because I can't afford to have my computer down again (use it for work).
