Dual CPU set-up Power Supply

Hi,

I am building a dual Xeon rig for some very CPU intensive application. I have bought a CX600M to power it all - this may seem low but there is little else drawing significant power in the build.

The PSU only has one CPU 8-pin power out, and the MoBo needs two (I think there is an EZ_Plug1 Molex connector, but that doesn't seem to work). The PSU has an PCI-E 6+2/CPU 4+4 port spare - but there is no cable supplied for the additional 4+4 connector.

Do I just need an additional modular cable (if so where can I get it?) or would I be better with a different PSU?

Thanks,

Guy

System Specs:

Dual Xeon E5-2630

Asus Z9 PE-D8 WS Mobo

2x H60 CPU coolers

Asus GT610 Passive Cooled GPU

1TB Sata HDD

12GB (6x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Triple Channel RAM

CX600M PSU

You would be better off with a PSU that supports two ATX EPS12v supplies. The CX600 isn't going to cut it.

The AX860 and above do support two EPS12v plugs.

Hi,

I'm running into similar issue.

I'm running with only one CPU at the moment, Xeon E5 2620

ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS

CORSAIR RM 750W

If I start the ssytem with only the 24pin plugged in it starts "properly", fan running that is.

When I then plug in the 4+4pin CPU plug, the fan's just starts but immediately shuts down.

There is no error code on the motherboard.

Do I have to plug in the second CPU cable anyway?

And if so, since it is not delivered with the PSU, can I order it.

I'm going to run a lab on this computer, so I'm not adding any cards at all.

No graphics, no sound. just the internal stuff, so I'm not in need of too many W's

regards,

Don't waste your time with that CX600, if I was you I would go an AX860i. I always shoot for the best PSU Corsair have at the time, currently I run an AX1200i for my PC which has multiple 780GTX video cards. I have been burnt in the past going with a under spec'd PSU. I'd rather have more room to move that running close to the line.
