gilly1am
Hi all, Have now installed my new H80i to Intel 920 i7 socket 1366 in a mid sized Coolermaster Gladiator 600 case. I had some issues along the way: 1. the backplate seemed loose with the standoff screws so used 2x small spring washers between each of the back plate studs and the back of the MOBO. This seemed to do the trick. 2. 2 of the 4 screws through the rear case grill/ rear fan into back of the radiator wouldn't bite fully and are slightly loose as if the holes in the radiator casing have worn... despite me trying to be careful not to over-tighten. I wonder whether the radiator metal is too soft at these holes? Wasn't impressed by this. 3. the radiator/fans unit was unfortunately too deep at the top & impinged on my 140mm top exhaust fan -remedied by swopping out with the 120mm taken off the rear. :sigh!: Anyway, results seem fine. The fans are relatively quiet in quiet mode.. although sound like a jet engine when cranked up! My temps are down: at 100% CPU load previous unclocked core temps of 80deg before mod. now down to max. of 49c !! after this clocked (by 25% tried so far) & max core temps 53c. The Corsair Link 2 software is good fun, which brings me on to my question: I can see that the header unit has a couple of separate ports not used so far, one next to the socket that the radiator fans go to, the other next to the micro USB socket. I'd like to connect my case fans to the unit so I can control their speeds. the 2 case fans are 3pin stock Coolermasters & are quite loud as running at 100% all time. Do I need to purchase a separate cable from Corsair & does this cable have a splitter to attach 2 or 3 more fans. Also will I have to get new 4pin PWM fans for the Corsair link to be able to control their speeds. If so, what are the forum member's considered opinions as to selecting a couple of good, quiet 4pin PWM fans: the front fan can be 120mm or 140mm & needs to draw through a filter in the case front. The top fan, as previosuly mentioned needs to be a 120mm exhaust fan. Many thanks, for any suggestions and apologies for length of post but thought I'd give my impressions so far. wytnyt
yup long post so ill refrain from quoting:D: normally case fans arent recommended using on a rad because of their low static pressure so at extreme long loads you most likely will notice a temp climb . if you want to use the controller lead for fans,id suggest going with corsair fans to avoid any possible warranty issues they have a nice line of fans to choose from so you should find one you like. gilly1am
Thanks for the reply, I've used the 2 fans(SP120s) that came with the H80i for the rad. Install. My question was about the case fans which I'd like to link to the header unit on the H80i so I can additionally control their speeds in Corsair Link and how to do this re. Cabling & suggestions for fans to replace my stock case front ( which has a filter) fan & case top fan.
wytnyt
your cooler came with 2 y splitter cables.,you can use the 2nd cable to hook your case fans to it.the 3 pin fan should still connect to it using 3 pins but since i dont know what brand fans you have theres a good chance link wont control them and they will run at full speed.the link can handle a broader range of pwm fans using the 1.0.5 software. gilly1am
There was only 1x 'Y'cable which connected, via large 4 pronged, ? proprietary, connectors to each of the cables from the SP120 rad. fans. The only other cable in the box was the micro USB to MOBO USB. I guess I'll need to order another splitter cable then work out how to connect the case fans. I take it the 1.0.5 is the H80i firmware update rather than the Corsair Link software which is 2. something?
wytnyt
hmm i thought the kit included 2 cables, maybe im wrong but i ended up with an extra 1? anyways they are sold separately at corsair. the 1.0.5 is for the hydro and with the link i use 2.0.6 which i find works much better than 2.
