Snik
I open a few small apps, the temp shoots right up. Doesn't seem to perform as well as the old h50 it replaced yesterday.... What gives...??
wytnyt
what temps? cpu, water or whats the load and temps?
Snik
I've had a hand full of apps going, browser, mpc, idm..... watched the cpu temp rise thru the 60's and promptly shut down the pc.
Snik
And now, with the very same things running, it seems to be staying around 50c, fans on balanced. Awful lot of work for a cpu cooler. Also note that absolutely nothing is overclocked in any way.
wytnyt
im not familiar with what mpc, idm is but what is the load %? the temp will initially spike a little then level out,if your load temp is like 80+ % then 60 isnt that bad

wytnyt
Yups, no mods at all. id suggest just running a few stress tests and check temps, you can press on the block and if its slightly loose then the temp should drop.im not familiar with the amd platform but i think they do run cooler than intel but 60 do seem a bit high. Snik
Well, I am completely unimpressed. I simply do not have the time nor inclination to freakin babysit a cpu cooler.
wytnyt
once its correctly installed and setup,no babysitting is needed.but its highly unlikely a cooler fault. help is here if you want it.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 25, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 25, 2013 I would suspect something is going on but with out more information on the system system configuration its hard to say what the issue might be. Start with the basics and check the mounting and make sure something is not getting in the way of the cold plate from sitting properly on the CPU and check the Pump speed in the BIOS, and how are the fans set up? FYI Mine runs at about 34-38 Deg C at idle in Windows depending on room temp. So yes there seems to be something wrong but we cant fix it for you sorry you got to do some of that for your self. Snik
I'll take another run at it tomorrow or the next day, depending on when I have the time. I do appreciate the help. In all my 20 odd years in computers I have never had such an uncooperative cpu cooler.
wytnyt
i think the biggest problems users make is basically these coolers are so easy it actually increases the chance that something is overlooked. the h80 coolers are good units that are very comparable to the h100i in performance,i have one i took out to install a h100 i and im already shopping for a few parts to do another build with. there should be someone here to help you when you decide to tackle it again. Snik
I may have found the issue. Even tho I had actually double checked(this is not my first rodeo), one corner of the backing plate was not perfectly secured. I had had to salvage one from another older board, as the one I removed to put the h50's plate on was no where to be found... and the crappy plastic grommets are, well, crap. I've re-secured them, and so far so good. If the problem returns I'll lose the plastic crap, and put in metal nuts bolts and washers.
wytnyt
this is why i always suggest to firmly press on the block to see if temps drop, the eye and mind can deceive you when installing good to see its better, now post a stress temp, thats where itll tell.
