nheather
I have some new Vengeance RAM that I am testing in a new build RAM - Vengeance DDR3, 2x4GB, 1600MHz, 9,9,9,24, 1.5V MoBo - Asus M5A9& R2.0 CPU - AMD FX6300 Memtest+ (Latest Stable Version 4.20) Reports RAM as DDR2, DDR640, CL 1,3,3,3 Memtest+ (Beta Release 5.00 RC1) Reports RAM as DDR3, 739(1478), CL 9,9,9,24 BCLK 92 (I understand that BCLK 92 means that the RAM is being clocked at 92% of base frequency) Could it be that the XMP does really underclock but report to the BIOS as 1600? So it is obvious that MemTest+ is having problems recognising this RAM. What I don't know is whether it is just MemTest mis-reporting or whether the RAM is really being run with relaxed timings. Anyone any experience of this. Are there any alternative testers to use. Cheers, Nigel
Synthohol
AMD does not support XMP as its an Intel classification. 1478 is what seems your CPU is comfortable with.
nheather
AMD does not support XMP as its an Intel classification. 1478 is what seems your CPU is comfortable with. Not entirely sure about this. The newer AMD boards can read XMP. With the ASUS M5A97 you can select profiles from the SPD, both JEDEC and XMP. If I leave the board to autodetect then it goes for the 1333 JEDEC profile. If I enter the BIOS and select the XMP it pulls out the parameters exactly as advertised on the Corsair packaging. So looking in the BIOS, the RAM is running at 1600MHz, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V exactly as Corsair advertise it. But MemTest+ is reporting it as 230\640MHz or 739\1478MHz depending on which version you run - this is what is making me suspicious of MemTest. If I hadn't tried the Beta version of MemTest+ just posted the results from the stable version, would you be saying that 230\640MHz is all that the Corsair Vengeance can comfortably run at - don't think so. Synthohol
would you be saying that 230\640MHz is all that the Corsair Vengeance can comfortably run at no i said CPU :) AMD has their own form of XMP called AMP (AMD Memory Profile). You should be able to use XMP timings as long as the IMC can handle it since the RAM can handle it. source of quote
nheather
FX-6300 is rated 1866MHz The Motherboard is rated upto 2033MHz Neither should have a problem with 1600MHz. The Motherboard BIOS is reporting 1600MHz, so either the BIOS is misreporting the MemTest is misreporting the Corsair RAM sets up one set of parameters but tells the BIOS something different Memtest over-rides the BIOS and changes the settings This isn't an AMP profile as far as I am aware. The Vengeance doesn't have AMP, it has XMP but many new AMD motherboards can read it. I bought this RAM because it is on the Asus QVL and it if weren't for the MemTest I wouldn't be questioning it because the MoBo seemed to pick up the profile and configure itself pretty seemlessly. peanutz94
nheather, could you please try using memtest86+. There is a link to the left if you need it. That is the version and brand of memtest that Corsair uses specifically to test memory. I'm wondering if it is just that memory test that your using is not the issue. See if they still show the same thing and if they do could you please take a screen shot and post it here. Reports RAM as DDR3, 739(1478), CL 9,9,9,24 BCLK 92 (I understand that BCLK 92 means that the RAM is being clocked at 92% of base frequency) Are you trying to overclock the CPU as well? Synthohol is correct about XMP. AMD boards may see them They are just reading the SPD information off of the modules. But they won't actually use them but can be set manually if need be. the Corsair RAM sets up one set of parameters but tells the BIOS something different Memtest over-rides the BIOS and changes the settings Memtest shouldn't have anything to do with your BIOS setting or would not have any way of changing BIOS settings. I'm wondering if you don't have a bad MB? The Motherboard is rated upto 2033MHz It doesn't matter what the board is rated for. Your CPU's memory controller will be the deciding factor as to the actual speed you can run your memory at. And AMD have some limitations depending on CPU and MB your using. Could you please fix the model number of your MB so I can loo it up. What you have posted in your original post isn't a valid part number http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=110428
KiLLaZ
Same problem, whit memtest 86+ 4.20 reports my vegeance RAM as DDR2, DDR640, CL 1,3,3,3.
peanutz94
Can someone please post a screenshot of that ?
KiLLaZ
I read on memtest86+ that is a bug that the program don't read well. http://forum.canardpc.com/threads/68001-NEW-!!-Memtest86-5.00-RC1-available-!-Need-betatesters-!
peanutz94
Killaz , please use the version posted to the left. Right now that is the only version Corsair is recommending to use to test their modules with.
