Mikeymore
Hello all, I have a system build thats stable for 2 years. I have 6x4GB Corsair Vengeance memmory on an EVGA SR-2 board. Last week the system won't get in windows 8, it freezes at the win logo. I have felt the system is very hot, my 2 cpu's are so hot that the bios reboots. Earlier I saw that windows sometimes recognise 44 GB of mem and today when running hot just 40 GB, other times the full 48GB. The system was running stable, even at 44 GB. The bios sees the full 48GB, so does CPU-Z. It passes an overnight memtest build in windows 8. A bootable memtest x86 failed, because at boot of the CD the pc restarts immediately. Could this be a memory related problem? Thanks in advance!
Mikeymore
Update from me: The overheating was because the waterpump of my cooling circuit wasn't working that well. I checked when the system was overheated and the pump worked, but today a new overheat and when touching the pump it works sometimes and sometimes don't. I have repaired this problem. Searching on Google and forum I found similar problems with incorrect memory in windows and sometimes the solution is to increase the voltages. I increased my Ram from 1.5 to 1.55 Volt and after 8 reboots (cold and warm) windows sees the full 48 GB Ram. I hope this is a solution for me. Anybody ever dealed with this problem and solution? Thanks!
peanutz94
Searching on Google and forum I found similar problems with incorrect memory in windows and sometimes the solution is to increase the voltages. I increased my Ram from 1.5 to 1.55 Volt and after 8 reboots (cold and warm) windows sees the full 48 GB Ram. This is quite common and coule be the result of a few different things. The increased load on the memory controller running that much memory, or your MB may be under volting the memory which is also quite common. Sometimes they just don't supply a true 1.5v even though the BIOS says so. But if it is all stable at what you have it set to then you should be good to go. Mikeymore
Mmm, after 7 starts with 48 GB the 44 GB in windows is back :-( I increased the Ram voltage to 1.6 volts, but the same result. Anybody more ideas? Thanks.
peanutz94
There could be a few different scenario's. It's either a bad module, a bad MB/slot or since you are using multiple kits, it may be one kit doesn't play so well with the other. Or you may even have to adjust the QPI voltage as well as DIMM voltage. I would test each module individually to see if you can narrow it down to any specific module. You say you have a total of 12 sticks, but how many kits and what is the exact part number of the kit's you are using?
