britguy2k
Newbie Alert (im sorry) I'm getting a 2E error code on my Asus Sabertooth Z77 when I boot my PC (this is my first build) I'm trying to configure 2 sticks of ddr3 part number above. I have been advised this ram is too new? for the m/b and i will need to put in a smaller stick(s) of ddr3 and then flash the bios and then hopefully use my larger ram? I understand the flashing process is not too scarey on this m/b and involves a usb stick and d/l'ing the new bios from Asus? Can anyone confirm that this sounds the right thing to do and also point me towards any articles or guides to help me thru this process.... If so, now i just have to find/borrow some ddr3, be a shame to have to buy it to use for such a short period of time lol Thanks in advance for any help :) Please dont laught at the newbie too much. Best wishes BritGuy2k
Repro54
Asus website is the best place to learn how to flash the bios. As for the memory remember to clear the cmos and the memory button after adding new ram.
peanutz94
have been advised this ram is too new? for the m/b and i will need to put in a smaller stick(s) of ddr3 and then flash the bios and then hopefully use my larger ram? It's not that it is too new. The I3's memory controller has a limitation that says modules need to be constructed from 256mb IC(chips) And the Vengeance kit you have would be made from 512mb IC's. That is what they mean by smaller/bigger. So basically you would be limited to 4 gig modules with that CPU. 256x8=2048mb x2double rank (double sided) for 4096mb's . Core I3 only support 16 Gig of memory and the modules have to made with IC's no larger than 256 X8 Memory IC's so that would 4.0 Gig double rank modules or 16 Gig total. http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=116594&highlight=core Where as the Vengeance modules you have now would be 512mbx 8 double rank for a total of 16 chips or 8192mb for an 8 gig module I don't know if a BIOS flash would do it for you? From what i understand this is more of a CPU limitation than a board limitation. But you have nothing to loose and everything to gain if it works. Please dont laught at the newbie too much. AWWW C'mon...Thats no fun!:beatchair:nutkick: Sorry I just couldn't resist. But it's not a newbie question! Really i hate that word and the branding that goes with it. You have to learn somehow and you won't know until you ask!
