Mazzocato
Hi, I bought some time ago a DDR3 1333 Low-Power kit of 1,5v, but recently I noticed something strange: SPD defaults the voltage at 1,585v and memory works fine. Thinking it was a mistake I downvolted to 1,505v and the BSOD started. I'm not overclocking it, just setting the advertised voltage manually. They are v1,5 in the site and in the modules stick. Something is wrong or it's just a "technicality" ? Thanks. P.S.: Sorry for my english, I'm from Brazil! :)
peanutz94
Your fine. Some MB tend to undervolt the memory or not show correctly in the BIOS. If they are nice and stable at that voltage leave them there. Besides, the modules are good up to 2.0v before you would need to worry about damaging the memory. However you would most certainly damage the CPU at that voltage. But at any rate the CPU specs are good up to 1.6v for the memory and you are well with in those limits. The only exception to that would be if you were overclocking and need more for stability. Some users don't mind voiding warranties for performance gains. :) Also noticed you have two 8 gig kits which may also require more voltage since they were not tested /packaged together. Two unmatched kits often require settings other than what is printed on the labels or product specs. Corsair uses quite a few different chips to make their modules and they can be swapped out at anytime. So this is why you should always purchase one single matched kit that is of the capacity that meets your needs.
WesternDreaming
pshaw, i wouldn't even start to worry about particular voltages until 1.7v if you really want to get them to 1.5v even, you'll have to adjust all the timings manually and they may not be SPD matching suffice to say, its all good, no need to worry under 1.7v :D
peanutz94
pshaw, i wouldn't even start to worry about particular voltages until 1.7v Whoa! Max Dimm voltage for that CPU would be 1.65v . Anything higher and you void your CPU warranty. Not once has anyone here including the support team have suggested anything higher. If you want to take that chance that's up to you. But even the support staff will tell you that if they won't run at rated speeds at 1.65v then you have other issues. You also have to remember it's not your hardware. So the chances you are willing to take may not always reflect the willingness of other users. If you want to suggest voltages that are out of spec please list them so end users know they would be voiding CPU warranties doing this.
Mazzocato
Hey there! I guess I didn't explain why I asked this, so... It's not for overclocking, since I have terrible luck with memory overclocking, plus it doesn't give any real performance gains nowadays in my opinion. I created the thread because I thought I had a faulty module :P Also noticed you have two 8 gig kits which may also require more voltage since they were not tested /packaged together. Two unmatched kits often require settings other than what is printed on the labels or product specs. Corsair uses quite a few different chips to make their modules and they can be swapped out at anytime. So this is why you should always purchase one single matched kit that is of the capacity that meets your needs. But this makes a LOT of sense. I purchased one kit, then after a few months I required more memory, so I got another of the same model. But since you said the chips might be different, well it explains. Also, the motherboard might need the extra 0,085v to run a 16Gb kit (or 2x8Gb). I guess that quote ringed a bell. And I'm fine with it ^^ Thanks a lot for your help! Solved :)
HOODedAssault
I had 2 seperate mushkin kits before that worked fine at 1.5v at default speeds alone but both kits together required 1.55v. Could just be higher vdrop because of more load on the memory vrm that causes this.
dhale
New Memory for Haswell New here and don't know where to post this question. I am going to be building a new PC with Haswell i7 4770k processor and an Asus Deluxe Z87 mobo and its probably dual channel memory (unknown yet). I would like to populate all 4 DIMMS with 16 GB memory. Some have said (2) 8 GB sticks are better than (4) 4GB sticks Why? And if I stick with 4 sticks of RAM, do I buy (2) matching sets of 4GB modules? I would do a little gaming and maybe a minor OC but if not necessary then I wont. Can you recommend the correct Dominator Platinum memory as I am ready to buy quickly. Sorry if this is in the wrong thread as I had been searching for info Dave
peanutz94
New here and don't know where to post this question. I am going to be building a new PC with Haswell i7 4770k processor and an Asus Deluxe Z87 mobo and its probably dual channel memory They have not yet anounced any official kits for that platform yet. However i would tend to think any of the dual channel kits offered for the latest Mb would also be compatible. I would like to populate all 4 DIMMS with 16 GB memory. Some have said (2) 8 GB sticks are better than (4) 4GB sticks Why? It's less load on the memory controller. It's harder for them to run 4 sticks vs 4 . I would do a little gaming and maybe a minor OC but if not necessary then I wont. Can you recommend the correct Dominator Platinum memory as I am ready to buy quickly. Sorry if this is in the wrong thread as I had been searching for info Until those boards and QVL's are actually released and Corsair releases their compatibility lists, there really isn't anyway to recomend any kit at this time.
