HDriscoll
Can I install the H80i with only the SATA power cable and fan header cable? (example: the push/pull fans will be connected to the M/B and the USB cable will not be used)

HDriscoll
Quick follow up question. The SATA power connector, is that used instead of the fan header for +12V and GND because the pump draws too much power?

HDriscoll
the sata powers the pump and the cpu fan is connected to give bios an rpm signal I was wondering why they didn't use the CPU fan header for power/ground and used the SATA plug instead. wytnyt
i would assume its an amperage concern but of course thats just my theory.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 14, 2013 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 14, 2013 I was wondering why they didn't use the CPU fan header for power/ground and used the SATA plug instead. Most MB fan header can only handle up to 1Amp, so if you connect the pump plus fans (up to 4), all devices can draw amperage more than the fan header limitation. In this case, SATA from the PSU is ideal.
HDriscoll
I've seen in the install guide that having the tubes on the radiator facing down will help with cooling. The pump/rad fit better in my case if I have the tubes on the pump facing up (the tubes on the radiator still face down). Will this hurt cooling in any way? The cooler is a closed loop liquid system, so it will not affect how you position the tubing orientation.
Gplattinum
I don't want to clutter forums, so I ask this similar to topic question... In order for me to install my 4th HDD, I need to use my 4th SATA plug. The H80i is taking this plug, can I use a molex to power the pump safely? Just cut, strip, and crimp to the molex? Also, what wires would I attach the pump power/ground to? The plug is (Red)(Blk)(Blk)(Ylw)... I would assume the Ylw and Blk? Thanks guys.
wytnyt
Why not just get a y cable that splits sata/molex
Specter
Why not just get a y cable that splits sata/molex I agree, you are going through too much trouble here. Get a splitter and call it a day.
