Air flow

Hey, I don't know too much about airflow etc, so I thought I could request some help here as there are many professionals on this forum.

That's my setup (you see the graphics card, radiator, a fan).

 

The radiator is a Corsair H100i. The fan is just a normal corsair fan, which I found in an old box.

 

This is basically a picture, which isn't that good but I guess it works.

Anyways the problem is that I reach very high temperatures sometimes with my graphics card. The graphics card reached 70 celsius when gaming, and I guess it can go even higher. I don't really know what a good airflow / fan setup would be to solve this.

Edit: I had this working fine (graphics card cooling) in my previous setup, but I had to change the radiator to this. The previous radiator was located where the normal fan is located now, so I had to change those locations of the fans. As you can see now my graphics card needs cooling.

 

I would add a fan for the graphics card itself to improve the cooling, but I don't see where I can place that.

graphics cards go up to 85C easy if not 95C but the higher the temp the more unstable they are...they can even reach 120C for SHORT periods of time and be fine but DOOOOONT test it

 

theres no fans blowing out? :(

...you should make it so the radiator blows in and the other fans blow out...

 

80 degrees is FINE even long term my old 8600 gts i think it was called was 85C for id say over 1000 hours it was PERFECTLY fine... and thats an old graphics card!

 

but if your overclocking and your voltage is just barely high enough for the clock speed you have i noticed every 10C i required about 0.006-0.010 more voltage so could cause problems when overclocking if your voltage is JUST high enough

 

also for some reason every 10C corsair link reported 1 amp higher (about 12 watts)...dont know why thats how my graphics card got up to 32 amps L O L it was about 90C 1210mhz core speed 1.3 volts and 1700mhz memory (i think memory was that high) anyway it was taking about 350 watts...L O L its a 7970 HD

 

but ya put the radiator so the fan blows in it will make your case hotter but just TRY this make it so the radiator fans blow INTO the case and the other fans blow OUT except your front case fan make that blow in

 

i now run 1.025 volts 900mhz core speed 1600mhz memory when i dont need much 1.1 volts 1000mhz core speed when i somewhat need power and 1100mhz core 1.2 volts when i really need power i dont like to get it above 1.2 volts i also keep memory at 1.5 volts really no need to overclock memory but memory can go up to 1.7 volts i dont know for how long probably wouldnt take long for that to kill it but ya anyway try the setup i said

 

default i think is 925mhz core speed and 1.175 volts so im sure 1.2 volts is FINE for it

 

oh and of course i used kombuster to get that high of a power load...but kombuster is HIGHLY dependent on your memory clock speed heck if my memory clock speed is 1600 i dont get much benefit at all with 900mhz core vs 1200mhz core

see the thing with making the radiator blow out is that its making the CPU about 5-10C hotter...if your ok with that then go ahead but it will only make your case at MAX bout 3-5C cooler and i dont think thats worth it...more like 3C cooler and 10C hotter for the CPU i HIGHLY recommend you make it so it blows in

Okay, one second before I change the fans.

 

Basically the water cooler looks like this

 

RADIATOR

FANS - blowing up against radiator.

 

Are not the fans supposed to blow up against it though? I mean if I make it blow down instead of up would it change anything with the water cooling?

 

I mean do I change the fans upside down ,or do I put the radiator under as well?

listen...you put 1 fan on one side of the radiator and the other fan on the other side of the radiator but make sure they both face INTO the case so they are blowing air INTO the case DO NOOOOOOT face the fans opposite directions make sure they BOTH face INTO the case so both fans should be blowing down

I feel like a complete idiot. I don't think it would be possible for me to put one on each side, but since I've shown my stupidity already I'll just make it simple for you.

 

Option 1:

RADIATOR

Fan1 (blowing in) Fan2 (blowing in)

 

Option 2:

RADIATOR

Fan1 (blowing in) Fan 2 (blowing against radiator)

 

Option one or two? Sorry for my stupidity.

2, you see them at the top.

 

I'll put BOTh the fans that are located UNDER the radiator blowing down, instead of up towards it. I hope this doesn't affect my CPU temperature that much.

well my thermal paste is messed up so at 1.3 volts 4.5ghz it gets up to 105C with prime 95 small FFT but while gaming gets up to about 60-65C...but when i fix the thermal paste im expecting about 45-50C while gaming and 70-75C while running prime 95 small FFT

 

and video card temps at 55% fan speed about 60-65C with 1.025 volts 900mhz core 1600mhz memory with 1.1 volts 1000mhz core about 70C and with 1.2 volts 1100mhz core gets up to about 80-85C and with 1.3 volts...ya lets not go there

 

now this is only about 90-95% load here

 

but i usually run about 80% fan speed while running games so at 1.2 volts it stays about 70C which is good

 

id say as long as your below 70C thats AWESOME and 80C thats okay 90C eh long-term (100's of hours) is ok but 1000's of hours might get SOME damage and 95C ok for a few 100 hours 100C id recommand lowering that lol now this is just my opinion keep in mind

 

now by some damage i mean SLIGHT degradation it would still work fine

 

as i said graphic cards are made to run 110-120C for a few minutes and not melt but it would cause some damage there

hi hi, im going to weigh in my 2 cents, can i ask what case you are using?

and what fans are you using? and ill do my very best to try and help you equalize the pressure in your case, it could be that there is too much pressure in your case and its not actually moving around inside regardless of the "direction" you are trying to accomplish :P

I still feel that it's a bit hot though? I mean I was gaming for five minutes and then I reached that temperature.

dude your motherboard temp is awesome mine is 43C right now in heavy gaming it gets easily to 46-48C and its about 78 degrees in here

 

dude 60C is NOT hot ok...so dont worry about that just keep it below say 70-75C if your really worried about it but 80C will be perfectly fine id keep it below 80C though

 

now is there a slot for another fan blowing out? because you have alot of air blowing in for air blowing out

 

then again thats the setup i have hahahaha

 

i have the fans on the radiator blowing INTO the case a fan blowing into the case (front) and in the back i have a fan blowing out...2 fans on graphics card
